IID tool Bluetooth ECU Reflash

Hello Gents

Looking to reflash my 08MY BT ECU to deal with ongoing pairing issues and issues where the phone screen will only display on the touch screen when a call incoming / outgoing call is made.

I have the First Hardware version of the IID tool. I have made sure I have the latest firmware (V3) and the latest PC updater.

I understand that with the first HW version (where the IID tools led is in the middle right position on the tool as apposed to the led being in the bottom corner for the 2nd HW version) you have to connect the tool to your PC via the supplied USB lead and somehow then connect with the diagnostic port with the PC connected to the tool, using the PC to control the BT reflash process

I have tried to connect the tool into the diagnostic port (DP) first, then plug in the usb lead into the too and i've tried to plug the tool into the DP already connected, but nothing happens.

Anybody done this on a 08MY and have any tips...help Big Cry GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

When mine doesn't work, it usually means I left the parking brake on.

DMRR...Will do.

I fully charged the battery overnight with my CTek charger, and connected it during the operation.

paulmoran2: I too would be very interested to read how things progress. I want to re-flash my 2005 MY Td6 Bluetooth ECU but am a bit wary of fiddling with things electrical I don’t understand … Shocked
However, I’m willing to give it a go with my IID tool if it turns out to be reasonably straightforward, so please keep us posted! Thumbs Up It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.

Steve, What are you using? If bluetooth iiD and iPad it is astraightforward job reflashing. If you log into the Gap website and look at the documentation it explains that it is a low risk reflash. John

Hi John/Weegie
I’m assuming you mean me ‘Steve’?
I recently bought (c/o Ducky Dan) a second-generation (with the LED in the bottom corner) non-Bluetooth IID tool and I’ve already upgraded to the latest software (V3). So far I’ve successfully (hooray!) turned off the single-point entry which didn’t work properly and was bugging me, and a few other minor bricoles.
I’ve read the manual and understand the risk in re-flashing the Bluetooth is pretty minimal. All seems pretty clear, but nevertheless I hesitate to dabble in things I don’t really understand so was waiting to hear from others!
From your previous posts, I think I’ve gathered that you are a bit of an electronics expert, so if you have any advice/tips I’d be a very grateful recipient of your wisdom!
Regards

Steve (bebechoon)

According to the IID tool handbook, 2nd gen (non BT IID tool) users like you, don't need the PC connected when reflashing, whereas us poor old 1st Gen (non-BT) iid users do have to use the PC connected to the tool connected to the diagnostics port connected to your leg bone, connected to your finger bone etc.

So in your case, it should be a straight forward plug, select and play (following the manual instructions of course)

Thanks, Paul. It's good to know that for once I am privileged!
I won't be attacking this until next W/E at the earliest so I have lotsa time to study the manual & prepare ...
Maybe nothing will blow up???!!! Thumbs Up It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.

I had assumed the mantle of a chum: but oeuf Corse! Pleased to hear it Thumbs Up
I’m not sure what to expect from the re-flash. At the moment, I can pair my phone but it hangs up when I dial and someone answers. My local Main Dealer was supposed to have reprogrammed the module 5 years ago, shortly after I bought the car, but it didn’t improve matters.
Has re-flashing sorted this problem for you or anyone else who may have done it?
I’m going to give it a go anyway – hopefully it can’t make matters worse … can it???!!! It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.

No Steve..the reflash couldnt really make that situation any worse could it?...its simply not working for you at all Laughing

The BT / Telephone ECU reflash is a non-critical one, so I understand that even if you Censored it up, you simply re-run the procedure.

I had exactly the same symptoms - hung up when answered. The reflash of the ECU solved it. Thumbs Up

As Paul says, if it fails you just re-run the procedure. John

Well...I did manage to do it,

... but it made no difference to my intermittent no display of my Iphone 6 as the phone shows its connected but touch-screen says "no phone connected".

However, I can always make and receive calls thru the BT system from the phone without issues regardless of what it says on the touch-screen. Other times, the touch screen shows its connected..very odd.

So, just in case someone else wishes to re-flash their Telephone BT ECU using the 1st Hardware edition of the IID Tool (the one with the IID Tools LED in the middle right position), you have to use your laptop to control the tool and stream the data whilst carrying out the ECU re-flash.

As a general observation, The 2nd Hardware edition of the IID tool (where the LED is in the bottom corner) is just plug and play without the laptop.

Please read the manual to ensure you have understood the process as I do not profess to be an expert in this area.

1- Charge car battery fully (i also connected my Ctek charger during the process)

2- Charge your laptop battery and make sure it will not go to sleep, shut down or go to the screensaver mode during the whole 45 minute process (I also plugged my laptop in using an extension lead)

3- Turn ignition to position 1. Insert the IID tool into the cars diagnostic port and wait till auto-recognized.

4- Connect the supplied USB lead into the tool, then into the laptop.

5- Within a few seconds, the tool will be recognized. On the laptop, click "Start". In the start menu or lower tool bar, a "C" icon will appear. Click on this, and the "IID Tool interface window" will appear on your laptop screen

(you do not use the IID Tool updater software that you may have already installed on your laptop for this specific operation)

6- Using the laptop / mouse, scroll thru the menu options on the tool interface screen to find ECU re-flash and then select Telephone.

7- Using a combination of the screen options and the steering wheels +/- keys, answer each question in turn. Eventually, you will be asked if you wish to commence the ECU flash. Confirm> +

8- The Re-flash will commence and the screen will show the % completed.

9- Wait approx 45 minutes- The interface screen will confirm the action has completed successfully

10 - Switch the ignition off, then back to position 1 to complete task.

11- Disconnect the tool from the port.

12- Re-pair your phone if necessary.

Your radio station presets will have been lost. This re-flash is non-critical, so it doesn’t work or goes wrong, you can re do it.

Good luck
