Conundrum

Well folks, the current FFRR is up for MoT, service, tax and warranty renewal in the next month. I'm therefore looking at an outlay of around £2500 for that lot. Such a lump prompts me to look at a swap and there are some nice late model ABs out there for around £40k with main dealers, which come with a 2 year warranty.

Nothing wrong with the current car, 2010 with 55k miles and lots of nice kit like climate seats,TV, and logic 7 hifi. So I'm wondering what's best, pay out for the current car, or pay out a bit more for a newer car with a 4.4 lower mileage and even more toys. My man maths tells me there's not much in it!

Well in that case it's a no brainer. Do the swap! Graham

Nothing wrong with keeping your options open,if you can get a good deal on trading up then its money well spent!

Keep what you know, you will spend more than that on depreciation with a newer one.

+1 - depreciation is the killer that you aren't taking account of in the swap Neutral

£2,500 sounds a lot for what you are doing and you'll have the road tax to find which ever you go with.

Why not go with an aftermarket warranty - cheaper and some of them get good reviews - mine is with Warrantywise who Gary Elliott recommends Thumbs Up

Thumbs Up Similar man maths took me to an L405

I decided that it wasn't worth it for another L322 when my heart wanted an L405......

Of course, the other potential banana skin could be the fact that SWMBO won't have the "man maths" button on her calculator! Rolling Eyes Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

I certainly wouldn't buy another L322 - having driven a friends Westminster, I just don't think its worth the shift to the 4.4 8 speed.

It will either be a big dose of pragmatism and into something truly "sensible" and at the other end of the spectrum such as a new Golf GTD (after all I've got my Defender for the off road side of things) or a 405.

Crazy choices I know, but the older I get, the less I feel the "need" for a big expensive car, and some of the smaller stuff is so well built with fantastic technology Confused

I completely agree, some of the new cars and suv's etc are really well built safe stylish and up to date with technology.
I think that LR has raised the bar so high and the prices for that matter of RR and the Disco 4 that I don't see the value for money anymore.
As much as I like my RR I can't, at this stage anyway see me buying another one.
Just my thoughts for the day. Thats all.

The L405 has better MPG - don't forget to factor that in - practically pays for itself Rolling with laughter

Interesting thoughts there so thanks. The £2500 works out at £500 tax £400 for the service and £1600 for the LR warranty extension. I've had bad experience of after market warranties so won't go there again. The way I look at it, if I swap now, I get a newer car with lower miles and two years warranty, but that will come in at more than the figures above, but I don't know how much. The current car is great, nothing wrong with it, So I'm more likely to keep it to be honest. As for the good lady, she pretty much leaves me to it. No kids, small, almost paid off mortgage, so no major financial burdens means I can indulge myself. I treat her too mind; have you seen how much Mulberry charge for bags? My first car cost less.......

I had a 3.6 and swapped it out for a 4.4 in Nov/Dec and the difference is HUGE! Just my 2p worth sir Bow down Bow down Bow down
