i've also wondered if the spark plugs need changing and if so would they make the SC run better.. ... - .- -.

On all of the P38's I've had I've given them all a big service just as I've got them (all filters, plugs, and all the fluids). At least on the P38's you can change the plugs in 10 minutes as they're easy to get to. With a Halfords trade card plugs for the P38 worked out at about a quid a plug too!

I commented on this exact same thing a while back, we've had ours serviced regularly by a main dealer, but the last service our local guy did it, and guess what, air filter filthy and the spark plugs had not been changed for a long time. One of the comments on my thread was that these days plugs are only changed every 100,000 miles!

Rimmer's aren't known for their cheap prices, mostly they just sell them at the main dealer retail price! Except most dealers will discount if you buy from them on a regular basis. But try looking up the price for plugs on a BMW 4.4 engine. £240! for a set of 8!!!! They're only made by Bosch, NGK etc for BMW/LR and you can get them for about a third of that from a factors! |

The plugs for the 4.2 SC are NGK IFR5N10.

The electrodes might well last, but often the ceramic insulators start to crack.

David, as a general rule of thumb on my own car... If JLR say it needs changing at 10k or 100k i will change it at 5k or 50k! I do VERY low miles! I personally believe time can do as much damage as miles on certain components hence the rule of thumb |

They had covered 90k, Stan.
