Granted, in Abu Dhabi it's just about irrelevant, but I'll start the list anyway:

1) Sometimes nice to just be able to flip the paddle to drop a gear to use engine braking going down a hill and tap the other paddle to stop it.

Didn't think I would use the flappy paddles on the diesel, but find myself playing with them all the time. They are useful when coming to overtake, you can blip it down a couple of gears in readyness for the move. More relevant on the diesel with the rotary knob as the sport mode doesn't have a way of manually selecting the gears other than the paddles unlike the sc where you could (if you didn't have them) flick the gear-lever to the left.....

I Agree with the idea of using them for engine braking too, works well with the van in tow or a heavy Trailer on the back. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I just wanted the engine braking as well but I'm sure I'll also be changing down to get the supercharger spinning as I plan my next overtake Evil or Very Mad Geoff

So the list is building. I'll just paraphrase and add a couple more:

1) Sometimes its nice to just be able to flip the paddle to drop a gear to use engine braking going down a hill and tap the other paddle to change up.
2) Good to have control over the box when preparing to overtake, by dropping a gear or two.
3) More relevant on the diesel with the rotary knob as the sport mode doesn't have a way of manually selecting the gears other than the paddles plus in the SC it keeps your hands on the wheel rather than messing with the stick
4) Its good for towing when you want to hold the gears sometimes
5) Its sometime useful when you want to short shift
6) The supercharged cars rely more on power rather than torque so good to get the engine at the correct speed for overtaking Shocked
7) It cost me less than £50 to do with Land Rover parts and probably added more than than that in resale value, so an excellent return on investment Wink
8. I enjoyed doing it and learnt a lot about the car by thinking through the modification.
9) I corresponded with one guy and had a couple of calls with another who helped me with the mod and by talking with like minded people, I learnt about other modifications that I can do.
10) Because we can Very Happy

Am I missing something Arrow I'll get my coat 2010 5.0 SC Autobiography

I think I was probably of the mindset of what's the point in having paddle shifters on my SC when it has power to spare. However in my first proper drive all has become clear, using the box to slow the car down, holding the car in second or third to perform a quick overtake, kick down takes valuable time. it is also nice to have the option of engaging "sport" via the stick for around town driving.
It is difficult to explain to someone who hasn't got it what they are missing and how it makes the car even greater than it already was. Geoff

Hi All, I joined this forum because I was so excited to learn that this mod could be done. Short story is I'm a full supporter of the paddles. I just drove around the mountains here for two weeks on a vacation with lots of ups and downs and just the stick for shifts all the while wondering why they didn't give me paddles in a '12. The rig went in for new brakes after vacation and they gave me a loaner, which had paddles! What a revelation. That prompted me to see if there was a mod for mine and lo and behold, there is! I've read the threads on this and other forums. I can figure out the airbag stuff as I did this on my 135i. What I need a little more assistance on is the jumper cable. Does anyone have a pic of the ebay cable showing a the connection between the paddle harness and the empty slot on the wheel? Maybe it's the subtle differences between how the Brits are describing the cable to my Yankee English, but I guess without having the parts in front of me, it's a little tricky to understand the whole "lining up the cables and then rotating 180 degrees". Thanks in advance. I can't wait to try this!

As you have a 12 plate these can be fitted without any modification to the system. You just need to fit the paddles, connect them to the connector behind the airbag and then get your CCF (Car Config File) modified to enable the paddles which can be done with diagnostic equipment like faultmate or maybe even at a dealer

I'm getting conflicting info on whether an American 2012 is wired the same. No matter. I'll get the extension anyway, but, any of you tell me what the torque spec is for the steering wheel nut?

Hey guys, I have a 2012 HSE 5.0 North American RR. My indy shop needs help. I've got the paddles installed and they appear wired correctly as they light up. The shop plugged in the Autologic unit and after searching through menus for 10 minutes, was unable to find any option to activate them. He asked that I do more research on where exactly the item appears for a 2012 HSE. I was hoping someone could map out where this appears? Do I need to take the next step and have him reflash the trans so that the options can be selected during the reprogram?

Thank you all for your help, my Ecu needed a re flash as the firmware was January 2009 version. Patrick from GAP was most helpful as my IID tool also needed an update to do the re flash. Adaptions all reset and paddles now working. A modification well worth doing for little cost.

Im just wondering did Gap supply the updated transmission ecu file?, If not is it available or do i have to see a dealer?

I have fitted the paddles's and activated with Gap however my car is 09/2010 so i no doubt need the update as they are not working

For anyone new to this thread with a 3.6 TDV8 10MY vehicle. It's not possible as the gearbox is missing the hardware needed.

The 5.0 and 4.4 models both can have Paddle Shift retrofitted. __
