Retrofitting fitting paddle shift to a 2010 5.0 Supercharged

I have started a new thread, just in case it helps someone, although some of this is covered in this thread http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic31125....ddle+shift as it links to the conversion of an earlier car.

Firstly, thanks to Baben and mzplcg for their advice. The key points, if someone is converting a 2010 car onwards and having read the previous threads, are:

Both paddles and interlinking cables are £45 plus VAT from Dan. The cable from the paddles connects into the back of the right hand switch gear next to the airbag (a spare socket). However, you end up with two, 4 pin male connectors.......you just do. You have to make a small lead to bridge the gap. Some people have used a 4 pin cable / plug from a remote control car, some a pc hard drive power cable and I used 8 single pin mother board cables (Maplin code number A39GF, £3.99 and I am sure you could get them cheaper from RS)and joined two together, to get four short cables with female fittings at both ends. The key information, (thanks Baben) is offer the original two male plugs up so that the orientation notches are aligned and when you fit your link cable, reverse the order of the cables, or rotate your 4 pin plug through 180 degrees. Install the air bag. Use the Powerful UK videos for steering wheel removal and paddle shift fitting. I changed the CCF's with the IID tool to show the paddles are now fitted and done. About 30 minutes all in and for under £60, assuming you have an IID tool (it is a great bit of kit). Some of the problems that can be encountered are covered in the existing threads.

For what's worth, these factory paddles are perfectly positioned and illuminate with the lights on. One of the best mods I have done. I appreciate that for some its not worth it but when I am pressing on, its perfect. Peter

Just fitted paddles to my 2010MY 5.0 SC and activated them with the IID tool but they do not work. I have made up a short lead am I correct is assuming when you look at both male plugs, if the notch is top left the pin next to it will go to the pin furthest away from the notch in the other male plug. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That's correct, imagine that you were just about to slide the 4 pin plug in with the notches in the correct orientation but then rotate it through 180 degrees.

Check to see if the lights on the paddles (the back lights on the plus and minus symbols) illuminate. If they on, the wiring is likely to be OK so you then need to go back and look at the earlier threads re the software status of the gearbox. 2010 5.0 SC Autobiography

SCBP thank you for your reply. The lights are on ok, so do you think ithis an Ecu reflash from the IID tool to update its firmware to activate the paddles.

Yes it does sound like it, although to be honest I just wired them up, changed the CCF to "fitted" and it worked so the guys on the earlier threads that had the same problem are perhaps best placed to help you with the next stage. 2010 5.0 SC Autobiography

Maybe the 2010 built SCs have a software update that allows for the paddle shift to be activated and the 2009 built ones may not have that software bit yet ????

I may do this upgrade as well if it is this cheap, I have the Faultmate so that is not a problem Smile

Are there any pictures of this job around ???

Another question, does the gear level need to be in tiptronic setting for the paddles to be activated or does it work when it is in "normal" DRIVE as well ?? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

The third video relates to adapting the paddle shift on earlier cars only.

Also, have a look through the original thread on this subject (there is a link at the start of this one) there is some good stuff there.

They do work without selecting sport, just select the 'plus' lever and they are activated Very Happy

Pretty sure you'll need the ecu update for the paddles to work, so good for the iid, but not so for the Faultmate.
I enabled Mzthingys with the IIDPro once he'd fitted them. Thumbs Up

So mines a 2009 MY2010 is there a definite way to tell if the paddle shifters can be made to work, there seems to be some doubt - I have an IIDTool. Geoff

Pretty sure it can be done but my old one (same year and same MY) needed gearbox ECU firmware flashed. Bodsy can do it with IID though.

You have the same box, ZF 6HP28 series and the later (different bit rate) CANBUS so physically it should be all good.
