So I ordered a new lower damper (part no LR017455) and I fitted it today.

However it seems to be working in reverse, it doesn't slow the descent of the tailgate, it damps the ascent.

I'm guessing this is not normal behaviour.

The LR one I took off worked - just about - the other way around.

Reckon I have a dud part?

Well known problem, if you look closely you will see that your Fatty is upside down............. Pete

I’ve just had the same problem replacing a marginal one with a new one. The new one is a waste of space and I’ve tried fitting it both ways.

The way up does not matter.

Its the action of the damper itself that is the problem on mine.

When you close the tailgate it extends the damper rod and when you open it shortens it. My damper is stiff when extending but easy when contracting

Ended up getting an LR part in the end. The batch of aftermarket parts are faulty.

Did the genuine part work out? Current
