sounds like you are having a time, i wonder if the car has been waded..

Do you have decent sockets and breakers bars, i have never managed to round a bolt but i do make sure i hammer the socket home fully as all the nuts and bolts are rusted and i have a couple of big breaker bars that i can usually get onto a nut or bolt with which makes a massive difference when trying to undo things as you are not struggling and pulling the socket off in different directions. i also use normal hex sockets where i can and i have halfords shock and unlock or WD specialist fast release penetrant.

were you using the air gun on a big compressor as i bought a windy gun for my compressor which is not huge and the gun is useless?

i have linked a couple of spanners together as well to get me some extra leverage.

I have a good 1/2" drive socket set and a couple of breakers bars

This is one of my favourite bars in action.

this is my biggest breaker bar that weighs in at around 5 ft long, that is not the bonnet prop, that is to undo the crank pulley !

Blimey!

I bought myself a 2ft breaker bar the other day, nice bit of kit!

I don't have a hex socket at the moment, something I need to get hold of if I try any more!

I'm really disappointed with myself, I've yet to have given up on a job on my own vehicle! Even managed to do a radiator and turbo in the past!

Something I find hard with the ff, struggling to jack it up high enough to get the wheel off for starters, then I have no room to negotiate the breaker bar... if only I had a ramp / pit!

I'll think about it in the morning, if I can get the caliper off, then the disc I should be able to get a bit further!!

I edited the post and added a couple of other bits, linking spanners can help.

i have a trolley jack for 4x4's which helps, again halfrauds, it has an extension piece on it so you can get right up to the jacking point before it even starts jacking and then i have some tall axle stands.

another thing i have done is to drive up onto some railway sleepers which is what i had to do to torque up the front suspension as this needs to be done with the weight on the wheels so the bushes don't tear.
Put it in low ratio and it crawls up nicely, i have had all 4 up before. the sleepers i bought cheap off ebay and chopped them up, i dont mind getting under it so much when it is on them, 2 1/2 tonnes on a axle stands is a little unnerving..
You can sometimes access a bolt to crack it and then undo it completely with a a standard socket

let me know if you have had enough of the fots !

You could always make yourself some scaffold board ramps, these were for my transmission project.

Stacker, think I'd be looking at a replacement hub and drive shaft, or at least outer CV joint, doesn't look like you have much of the nut left at all....

Plenty being broken on eBay...

No wonder you are having such problems, did the FF come from the seaside...??? Pete

Thanks for the pictures, I'll see if I can make something up and have another go on Sunday. I might look into getting a dremel as if I can get that in there I wouldn't need to take the brakes off at all, cut the head off the bolt then knock the Censored crap out of the ball joint!

I also had another thought I could have probably got the arm off the ball joint with the air gun, if I could use the nut to spin the ball joint... or wouldn't that work?

Hay lands - that thought has crossed my mind, but I might just leave it for now! The others are like it too I think it must have been parked in the sea for a little while!!

Like every job on the Ffat,it is hard work but one thing I have learned with age is spraying up before tackling a job ,either the day before or even better a few times even a week or two before, you will be amazed with the difference.
