New fuel filter query

Installing a new filter and I’ve got stuck with the water drain connection.

I’ve installed the knurled metal cap at the bottom of the filter with the new seal, however I can’t get the water drain connection to stay on the round spigot on the cap.

There’s a threaded bit that come out if the cap centrally - I assume that’s not needed ?

There’s right angled rubber pipe that goes to the drain tube has a metal tube in it. I was hoping that would either slot into, or around the spigot on the metal cap, but they appear to be the same diameter.

Guidance gratefully accepted !

Thanks

Jonny

It fits onto the centre threaded bit. It’s for the water in fuel sensor.

Gold star to that man ! It was a trick question honest….

Did some googling as it wasn’t an area I’d come across before and all seems perfectly simple now I know about it all goes together.

For the uninitiated stumbling across this in the future, when changing the fuel filter, there’s a sensor that pushes onto the ridged rod in the centre. This isn’t threaded in a conventional sense. You pull the sensor wire off from underneath the filter and for ease, can attach it before fitting the new filter.

Don’t forget to unscrew the sensor plater off the old filter and screw it onto the new filter with the new supplied washer.
