P2264 - Water in Fuel Sensor Circuit - 2011 4.4 TDV8

In relation to a separate thread, I have this message appearing on the codes but not on the TFT, and I think it is causing restricted performance. It recently had a new fuel filter and housing, but the issue persists. The fault was also on when we tested it with the sensor disconnected from the fuel filter which seems to indicate it is not the fuel filter housing? Help very welcomed.

sometimes the light is on...others itll go days without coming on..any ideas anyone?

I fear you are going to have to remove the fuel filter again and replace the sensor.

Dominic, try unplugging cable and cleaning connector with el. cleaner and spraying some WD40, it cant hurt.

Thumbs Up

JAS kindly worked on it today and it looked like the water fault was down to a fault fuel filter housing and sensor! All fixed now, happy days Smile

Mine just threw this message up again...RP on the dash but nothing happens to the car...
I drained some fuel out but it wasnt contaminated
I did change the filter to see if that would help, i have tried to find a chaffed wire but everything looks good
I have cleaned all the connections with electrical contact cleaner...
Starting to think the sensor must be bad now....for some reason you cant just buy the sensor, only the whole housing with the wires attached
Any ideas ?

Had similar at Christmas after I hit a bit of flooded road at speed - no restricted performance message, went away of its own accord.

Unnecessary quote removed

I believe it is a whole fuel filter housing unit as the sensor does not come separately

After all my messing around with the water in fuel sensor wires and swapping the filters the RP message was coming up almost permanently so i spoke to Maltings about the Sensor wiring they sell for the TDV8 3.6, they were pretty certain it would be ok for my car and for the sake of a tenner inc delivery i ordered one late on Thursday afternoon, it arrived at 7:00 am on Friday!!! so a big shout out to them for excellent customer service.
I decided i would just swap out the wiring harness first and leave the in filter sensor to later if needed.
The only difference in the 2 looms was the length on the wire from the junction box to the main loom plug was much longer than my existing one, obviously not really a problem, the length of the sensor wire from the junction box to the in fuel sensor was the same, 5 minute job to do after collecting the right size spanners to use
Turned the car on and RP message is gone, have run round in it today trying to provoke it to coming back on and its still off
So....Fingers crossed, it looks like its fixed, if not i still have a new in filter sensor to go one step further...but if anyone with a 4.4 is thinking they have to spend £250 to buy a new filter housing to get the wiring for their car because it isnt available seperately....give Maltings a call and spend a tenner Very Happy
Cheers
Mike
