Rob,
If you monitor the DPF soot concentration at the same time as the exhaust temperatures, you will soon see when an Active regen triggers.
If it rises from 14.5 to 17.5 in the next couple of weeks then you can expect to see it fall to around 2.3.
2 points to remember, (1 ) speed needs to be 50/60 mph.
(2) you need at least 1/4 full tank of diesel.

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black

Hi guys,

This thread is superb. Like most here I am not a mechanic but I have a little experience and game working on cars (older ones mostly!)...
I took delivery of a 2012 TDV8 4.4 last week. It's amazing and I love it. 29,000 miles on the clock.

I left it idling on the drive while I played with it, tarted up the trim, tested everything - you know the score! and subsequently got the Amber light DPF Full.... I had no idea there is a DPF speed/usage requirement!!...

I completed 3 x 40 mile runs (unbroken at 70mph) the amber went out briefly when I stopped at traffic lights each time at the end. Next time I started the engine the Amber DPF Full warning went straight back on. Balls. It has now turned Red.

I am guessing my Active Regen is not initiating - just a bit of Passive happened when I was at speed. I have ordered the IIDTool.

My car is going into a Land Rover main dealer tomorrow in Dorset; sorry if this is against the self-fixing ethos here but I need it running and I am still learning how things work.

I will share the outcome, cost and details here.... any thoughts very welcome, I have read and re-read this thread, amazing way to get up to speed fast. It's like the ghost of Haynes Manual. Greg you are a legend.

Matt

p.s. There is clearly some appetite to be able to clear the Red DPF Full warning. Could someone respectfully suggest to Pat at GAP that they meet this requirement and offer this functionality as an add-on module. They could then add the necessary disclaimers alongside a price - it seems people will pay for it and we clearly need it. 2012 Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

You're too kind Matt.

Maybe obvious since you've read it all but how much fuel did you have when you set off?
You need more than a quarter of a tank.

If you had higher than this then I'm not sure why it didn't regen.
And the light going off then coming on again, either at the end of your run, or idling seems way wrong.

But the good news is wherever you bought it from, it's their problem to fix under warranty.

. Cheers, Greg

Hi Patrick and team,

I have a 4.4TDV8 Range Rover with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

My car has gone into limp mode and I need to do a DPF Forced Regen.

I know dealers can do this, but it would be very very helpful if there was some way I could enable this via my IIDTool.

A Forced Regen needs to be trigged in the car’s ECU and then driven at 50mph for around 10 mins.

Normally, I do this around every month on a ‘yellow’ , user warning and I don’t need the deeper access. But tonight the warning symbol has gone from yellow to red (and therefore limp mode) before I got through traffic and a 50mph stretch of road.

Either on yellow or red the actual driving procedure is the same, it’s just that I am locked out from doing that.

Hi Greg

Unfortunately, force regen is not implemented yet and won't be in the short term. Keep in mind that the same driving conditions are required.

Best Regards
Patrick Meilleur,
 Cheers, Greg

That is strange DrRob. I will do a bit of research on it. You may want to email GAP because you need the grams figure as far as I can tell. Your value of 14.5 is not marked as grams and this may well be the grams number, but the 'soot in oil' reading does show a 'g' where the 14.5 doesn't.

Welcome Matt!
With such a low mileage car I reckon it's just been used for pootling around town and not had a life of longish journeys.
If you have it cleared at the main stealer (keep us posted on that and the ££!) then start using for normal type journeys then I reckon you should be OK.
The IID is a great piece of kit which you will get addicted to Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

DrRob onto your (and Sausagecreature's) updated values; my thinking is that the update has taken you to Euro6 data and inputs or even future values and there are different to Euro 5. Early 405 4.4's are still Euro5 at some point they added AdBlue and other emissions protocols to become Euro6 compliant. Not sure what year it was.

The IIDTool shows the same data as SDD (official LR diag tool) so an update at LR's end would cause an eventual update to the IID.

I think I'll add to the list and speak to Pat about getting the grams number back if possible.

In the meantime I don't think I'll be updating my IID as I don't yet understand these new parameters. And the Workshop manual for L322 4.4's doesn't relate to the new parameters either.

Does anyone know if there is a 405 WM manual in circulation yet? Maybe Stan? That might shed light.

. Cheers, Greg

Matt - does it belch out smoke when you boot it hard? My understanding is this is a sign to have turbo mod done otherwise hold off. They will charge you a hefty whack to do it at a stealer! 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"
