I have a Je re map on my tdv8 in the uk. Cant get the econamy anywhere over 23mpg. 2007 TDV8 Vogue SE

I have a DMS re map on MY10 Sport TDV8 and get anything between 18 and 31 depending on how i drive it.. Far to many gone...

Economy was never the reason for doing this, its about the change in driving dynamics.

Having been out a number of times I can now report that its made a phenomenal difference.

It's actually a bit scary how fast this car now moves along, you can find yourself reaching triple figures SO easily, it makes you glad for Brembo brakes, I just wish my tyres were in better condition!

Don't get me wrong, i think it's an excellent uplift, it releases power and grunt that is incredibly useful, especially in the UK where there seems to be huge numbers of trucks and vans to overtake, and also OAP's

Maybe I just drive too fast, but I'm convinced no one drives a FFRR quicker than me!

OK, well after a few hundred miles in the remapped TDV8 I can report that economy has barely changed, its down slightly but that's because I'm hooning around using the new unleashed power.

It is awesomely quick, and sometimes scary that it reaches such speed so quickly, the torque curve is just stunning.

When you consider this now has 800Nm of torque, and is now 315BHP for comparison:

FFRR 4.4 TDV8 is 700Nm and 313 BHP
FFRR 5.0 SC is 625Nm

Ferrari 599 is 620Nm
Aston Martin DBS is 570Nm
BMW M3 is 400Nm

By the way, the chaps at J E did mention that the new 3.0 TDV6 as fitted in the RRS and D4 are proving very difficult to remap due to the ultra complexities of the modern systems involved and they have yet to get their hands on a 4.4 TDV8 to try it, and it may prove as hard as the TDV6 to do.

Sounds to me that the best combo is the 3.6TDV8 and a remap to me, proven and stunning to drive. Discovery 4 HSE

Those figures are amazing its a real Torque Monster

Keep an eye out for news from BAS re the new TDV6 and TDV8 remaps as they are currently testing them.

Pete has said that mapping the new engines has proved to be difficult due to the new ECU's/electronics that are being used by LR these days and whilst he can map the D4 210bhp up to 245bhp easily that is in the commercial version, to map the 245bhp unit means the ECU has to be split - they are currently testing 4 D4's putting out approximately 285bhp.

Not many folk want to have this done as it is a clear tell tail to LR that something has been tampered with

The BAS remap box was a godsend on the old TDV6 & TDV8 engines as it took 2 mins to remove the map and this could be done whilst in the dealers car park or whilst waiting for LR assist - believe me I have done both

No doubt it won't be long before Pete cracks the process and offers a switchable remap for the new TDV6 and TDV8 engines. "UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" ----is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" -----------is how far you take the fence with you.

But really finding it hard to fight the urge for a S/C...

I don't understand why you would want or need to remove the remap. It is almost undetectable by the dealers, they never investigate such things, unless of course you blew your engine or gearbox up and they'd want to know why.

Seems like a lot of hassle for no purpose or need to me. My TD6 had a remap from JE and the dealer never once picked up on it, nor did they wipe over it (if they had JE offer a free reinstall). Discovery 4 HSE

4.4 TDV8 I am told by a reliable source that a map that has been on test for over 3 months now will be released when it has some warm weather tests on the gearbox which at the moment gives 390HP and 975NM Torque now that will be a monster.

This does at the moment mean a ECU spilt but they have someone working on that who is very close to by passing the pin chip code read/write i am told on the Bosch units ( the same tech that is on later M3 BMW's that have just been cracked a few weeks ago.) Far to many gone...

I was just wondering as some time has elapsed what is the verdict on the remap as I am very tempted. Should I get it done, economy does not concern me but the performance does. Have you now got used to it and does it not feel as fast now.

It still puts a big smile on my face every time I drive it. It reaches speeds so effortlessly due to the masses of torque, but so easily, it just sort of creeps up on you. Its incredible for overtaking and crusing along is just as sublime.

Maybe, over time it means that brake pads wear quicker as you are pulling the anchors out more than normal, who knows, but it makes an already great car just that bit more satisfying. I'm pleased I had it done.

I'm driving down to the Alps on Friday and Saturday, that cruise down the French motorways will be so easy and relaxed.

For the sake of £400, its worth every penny. Discovery 4 HSE
