New Wipers

Recently fitted new windscreen wipers to the car and after two weeks use they sound as if they have been on for about a year

After first sweep up and down they sound as if the actual metal parts of the wipers are scraping over the windscreen PITA

Mick, all last week and this weekend I've had wiper blades doing the same thing, I wonder it is the cold weather causing the rubbers to go hard? Have you tied warming them a bit with the front screen heater? 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - itโ€™s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Mick I bought a new set for mine this time last year and they were REALLY noisy the whole time, any weather, especially on the switch in direction.

When it was last in at the dealers before xmas I did something I don't normally do and just told them to replace them, even though I knew it would cost top whack.

The result? Silence................ Cool

Maybe they tweak the angles at the same time or maybe some wipers are just born Crap. For the sake ofฃ30, get some new ones and see if its the same issue. Discovery 4 HSE

I'm stuck away in Dublin.

once I get back I'll take some measurements and pictures of my frameless conversion.

result: silence and ฃ15/set wipers.

I'm also going to capture the wiper 'adjustments' in pictures although the main thing to remember is that for an expensive car the wiper arms are sh**. f'kin Mini One has much better quality arms than the cheapo made from the foil of a KitKat wrapper Friday afternoon sh*t that we're 'treated' to.

Still want to fashion some proper arms from actual metal with frameless facility easily.

Rant over... They're easy (ish) to adjust and as soon as I get out of this over priced dump I'll document it via the proper channels... Thumbs Up

Mick, just because they are new doesn't mean they are ok. My new ones were rubbish too, except I was daft enough to put up with them for a year. Discovery 4 HSE

Another reason I changed/sorted mine was that the metal actually WAS catching due to incorrect wiper angle scratched screen wasn't good...

However getting a brand new one fitted under warranty due to a non-working strip of the heating elements was great.

Didn't realise how pitted/scratched the screen was!!

You can adjust/tweak the angle in a couple of ways. first off unclip the plastic cap on the wiper and undo the nut (16mm spanner IIRC). You'll see the horizontal striations arranged in a curve which allow you to tilt the wiper until it's right.

The back of the wiper arm should be parallel to the screen. You can lay a straight edge on the arm to sight the angle more easily.

Probably while you've got the wiper arm off it's a good chance to clean the galvanic corrosion (white cr*p) off the alloy section of the wiper to allow the grooves to mate properly and also check the arm mechanism is clean and lubed up to it moves freely to collow the contours of the screen.

The other less elegant way is to grab the wiper assembly and bend the whole arm. (as I said above they are cheap and nasty) but for me this give less control over the angle and the only reason to try this approach is that someone else has beaten you to it and the wiper arm is no longer coplanar along it's whole final section.

I'll post pics at the weekend. and also how to adjust the stroke of the wipers.
Thumbs Up

its possible that these wipers have been on display for a while and have gone 'hard' due to the heat in the showroom...i'd take them back and get a new set. ... - .- -.

Mick, I had a problem with my last RR that actually had a scuff mark on the windscreen. I replaced them myself 1st with a bosch set, only to get noise and judder a week later.

Took it into two Land rover dealers and the second one fitted a new set of wipers. They said they were a softer compound to stop judder and worked fine from then on? My Previous RR's!

I'd be interested to know how to level the blades, i requested mine be alligned to the portion of the window where the elements are. They managed the drivers side and not the passenger side.

i've not checked my car but there should be 'registration' marks on the windscreen glass (there are on jeeps Smile ) for alignment
