Possible to deactivate/disable LED halo angel eyes?

This is probably a very unusual/unpopular modification but I thought I'd try to ask you knowledgeable folks on FullFatRR anyway.

Is there a way to deactivate or disable the LED halo angel eye rings on the 2010-2012 L322? Do these LEDs have dedicated wires inside the front headlight assembly where you'd be able to disconnect to deactivate them?

do you mean the fairy lights?

these are used as side lights as well as drls....if yours are set as drls then they can be de-acivated with an iidtool....

More specifically, I'm referring to the pair of round halos that go around the circumference of the front headlights, as per the photo below:

On my vehicle, they are not used as DRLs and turn on when I rotate the headlight switch/dial from 0 to either 1, 2 or Auto.

Correct, those are the lights in question.

Thank you for your feedback, Stan. I was hoping it would be a simple wire cut or wire disconnect inside the headlight assembly and that someone here has successfully figured out how to turn them off permanently.

you could cut a wire to permanently disable them ,you'd also get a bulb warning error i would have thought..

why do you want to do this?

Can you confirm that there are actually wires inside the headlight assembly that can be cut? I've looked inside before while changing bulbs but haven't investigated it thoroughly to determine if such wires are easily accessible. Would these wires be running from the back of the LED halo rings over to the pin connectors at the bottom corner on the back of the headlight assembly?

I've seen LED halo light retrofit kits that can be added to the earlier l322s. I believe those have dedicated wiring added to power the angel eye halos. I just wasn't sure if the stock 2010-2012 headlights would have similar separate wiring.

This is great, Stan! Out of curiosity, where were you able to obtain this useful information?

It appears that opening the circuit at pin 1 or 4 would deactivate what is described as the "lamp side light". I suspect this will disable not just the halos around the headlights, but the long, tall rectangular side markers at the edge of the headlight assembly too, which I'm fine with.

Thumbs Up

The halo/side lights are on a plug internally so, if you removed your light and looked in through the headlamp bulb hole you can see the plug from memory...

I have a broken lamp sat on my bench, ill take a look tomorrow and let you know sir...

Disconnecting it will leave you with NO front side light you realise? Maybe illegal in your country as it would be here in the UK... Thumbs Up

Thanks for your feedback, Craig. I didn't get a chance to inspect my headlight assembly for the wiring this evening but if you have a disassembled set that you can easily check, that'd be fantastic!

Here in Canada, we would technically require side marker lights to be functional in either amber or white. That said, this is generally a stipulation required for our safety standards test and is hardly, if ever, enforced on the road. Law enforcement officers usually have better things to worry about than someone's side marker lamps.

I read on here recently that there’s a lighting configuration specifically for Canada (and one for Scandinavia)
Maybe you have this applied and can simply turn it off via IID tool or similar ? 4.4 AdBlu Tractor
