Kids left an interior light with the result now being a dead battery... The range rover is down the side of the house so unless i push out i cant get jump leads to it, dont need it for a few days so i have disconnected the battery and put my charger on it.

Now that is the question; my charger is old and tiny! its got 12v 6 amps written on it so is this up to the job of charging a range rovers battery, if so how long will it take, or do i need to go buy a new one? 2004 black Vogue TD6

to be honest take the battery to your local independent battery supplier and get them to put on a proper controlled charge

probably £5 to the guy!

they will also do a battery 'condition' test for you FOC - this is done on a computer controlled 'machine' and gives a percentage efficiency result

Do you have Tow Bar electrics?

I may be wrong but I'm sure when my kids have left the lights switched on that they shut off anyway when the cars systems shut down.. I guess this assumes the car was locked. Though I may be wrong  2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

I believe you may be able to connect a booster battery via the tow electrics but not certain.....

Certainly do not try this until somebody verifies it can be done

12 +/- feed there - I have thought about this for a charging point too...

But anyhoo, I have a similar charger. If the battery isn't completely flat then 30 mins - 1hr is fine I found. I had to to this when I left the interior light on, it is possible to override the time-out function - Doh!

If the battery is completely flat you will have damaged the plates and now it won't take as much charge again, maybe look at replacing it next winter as long as you don't start getting gremlins.

You may well be correct, as although i'm blaming the kids (got to have someone to shout at.. ) i did not lock the car, also rear door was left slightly open...

Still the kids fault as chances are they where arguing so i forget to go back and check lock the range rover...  2004 black Vogue TD6

a very low amps for a duration would be ok as is the same with these things that plug into your ciggy lighter ..a proper jump start will only work via the terminals under the bonnet.. ... - .- -.

thanks for the replies guys....

the charger has 4 lights on it, 1amp-2amp-4amp-6amp. all 4 are on, am i correct in thinking 6 then 4 etc will go out to indicate the battery is charging.

sorry for the dumb questions, electrics are not my thing..

also got the "air suspension inactive message" when trying to start this morning so might have to do the steering wheel left to right thing when\if she starts. 2004 black Vogue TD6

she started and the left to right on the wheel has cleared message.....  2004 black Vogue TD6

a very rough rule of thumb is :-

if its a 6 amp/hr charger and say a 110amp battery, just divide the 110 by 6 = 18 hours required to charge the battery, then just add a couple of hours for lost amps in the charging process = say 20 hours to fully charge. This is assuming there is no drain on the battery from other sources.
