Our mechanic said this fluid ok where another one said it is bad.
I think it is bad too.

The fist time doing this job.
with our cars - with the car standing / not running - I tend to use my workshop suction tube bottle and suck all the fluid out - till it reaches the gauze at the base - then fill back up with NEW fluid.

The fluid when new is bright PINK.

I run the car for a day - then do it all again:
suction tube and suck all the fluid out till it reaches the gauze at the base - then fill back up with NEW fluid.

I run the car for a second day - then do it all again:
suction tube and suck all the fluid out till it reaches the gauze at the base - then fill back up with NEW fluid.

after 4 fill ups - THEN THE WHOLE SYSTEM has been flushed - to get rid of all the old stuff.

Note:
The power steering fluid will only circulate when the engine is running and theirs slight pressure on the steering wheel - this causes a valve in the pump to open and circulate the fluid around !

Note: - Do not over fill the system !

Once you have clear bright PINK power steering fluid in the reservoir -

Then every 4 months I suck out the fluid again to the lower of the reservoir gauze then refill with brand new fluid.

It's very cheap to buy - but ensure you buy the right one and hi grade power steering fluid - that was you will ensure your power steering pump is in mint condition.

After all - all oils for the FF - are cheap in comparison to how much the car was :-

I'm not sure about the 2010MY but the cold climate fluid that's spec'd for my 2009MY is luminous green rather than pink? 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

The PAS fluid is GREEN NOT PINK gents...

And imho that fluid in your car is finished sir and needs replacing! 👍

Is there not a drain plug, or maybe a union you can loosen to drain away the fluid then refil , seems to be a bit of a faff on with suction and the like , just a thought

If you use my method you will flush the system and have only new fluid in the system. it will take cc 2 liters of fluid. 2012 TDV8 Black Edition

Out of curiosity today I had a look at the power steering fluid in my car, it's a golden yellow colour. It appears in good condition and certainly doesn't smell untoward. As far as I am aware the steering is working correctly and has never been a cause of concern. Am I correct in assuming I would have to flush out the entire system rather than simply emptying the reservoir ie not mixing the "correct" new green fluid with old.
Investigating the colour it seems this is just a manufacturer thing for identification purposes and doesn't in anyway affect the fluids properties, for example Mercedes use a gold coloured fluid.

My local indy disconnected the rack pipe to drain the lot far easier then reffill and bleed cost me £70 _____________________________________________________
