Hi all I've just done some work on the drivers seat trim switch panel which involved disconnecting
the power supply at the switches. It's all back together now. But the engine won't start and the steering coloum is going up and down I have connected if correctly and I have tried the usual disconnecting the battery but to no avail. Tia

disconnect the seat power leave for 30 minutes letting everything power down, and then see if it starts..

Hi Stan thanks for your help. I did that and it's still not starting could it be I need to reset the fuel cut off valve I've not managed to find it yet,failing that maybe easy start spray case the fuel pump has died. If it starts then could be new pump.

Forgot to mention the steering is ok Now I notice when trying to start the key will spring back as when stoping the start process but the starter is still engaged. I have to turn the ignition off. I now wish I had disconnected the battery before starting the seat project.

If I understand you correctly, it sounds as if the starter pinion is sticking in the engaged position. If that is the case, it would mean removing the starter to ensure the pinion is free to recoil or, possibly, a new starter motor. John

How is your battery? If it has run down below 12.5v it will play havoc with the electrical systems

hi the battery is/was fully charged I'm hoping if I can sort out the non starting issue it might sort the starter out on start up.

Hi all Can anyone pinpoint the location of the inertia cut out reset button. Tomorrow I'm going to check if I have a spark by removing a spark plug an coil. Also if I have fuel pressure at the shreader valve on the top of engine and power to fuel
pump/fuse/relay. I suppose it could just be just coincidental that I was working on seat electrics and the fuel pump is packed up.

Does thevengine crank but not fire or it won’t turn over at all?

Hi thanks for your time. The engine cranks over fine it just don't fire up. I'm going out to pull it to bits now.

If it's turning over but not catching, it could be lack of fuel. If there's nothing coming out of the schrader valve, have a look under the rear seats - you'll find the tank access hatches - the low pressure pump is in the tank on the right hand side so check for power there.

Could it be something as simple as a blown fuse on the fuel pump circuit?

Do you have a code reader, or access to one just to see if there's any faults registered? When I had fuel pump issues there were a few "low fuel pressure" errors on the diags.

Hi thanks for your help. I have checked the pump fuse that's ok if I bypass the relay the pump works ok if I replace the relay the pump won't work I have put the heated seat relay (same numbers) in and it don't work. Is there a way to bench test a relay. I have removed the fuel pump unit from the tank already? Tia

Have you tested the fuel pump relay in the connection for the seat relay (assuming they really are the same) - that'll tell you if it's the relay or the connection to it 09 RR Westminster 3.6TDV8 - Stornoway Grey / Black interior - now gone (sad face)

Hi yes I tried that and it was ok. Where I'm at now is I've checked the relays are working. I have found that when checking the power supply at the relay insert holes they are all correct with ignition on/ off im using hole 86 as ground.
When I put the relay in it doesn't energise to make the necessary contact. The power is there but no ground? But I know this ground is good as I use it to check for power. If I push i wire in 86 (ground) with the relay blade and manually ground it.
Turn on the ignition and the pumps working. So any ideas where to look next. Does this sound like an ecu issue. Also could this be the same issue with the starter continuing to crank when I let go of the key. Tia
