i'm making some progress with the fbh

So yesterday i changed my battery on the range as an idea for why my fbh wasnt firing up for parked heating but was firing up with a cold engine..

So tried it this morning the new battery in and it deffo fired up, I could hear the fuel pump pulse / click at the rear and the fbh sounded like it was properly burning.. It ran for somewhere between 15-20 mins but i was suprised to find the cabin wasnt warm...

However it did do this to the screen?





So made some progress but still not there 100% so any input please?? Regards

This is going to Censored you off, but mine got that far with ice on the screen on the coldest morning so far this winter. Mr. Green And the cabin had the chill off but I have to admit did not seem "warm".

Seriously that's getting better if the FBH stys on for 20 minutes, that's the time for a diesel. Did you say above you changed or charged the battery?

One question I have, how did you check the charging voltage on the car. Was it with a voltmeter on the battery while standing alongside and the car ticking over and did you have any electrics other than the FBH on? Cheers

Further to our exchange via PM - other physcial issues worth investigating:

CHANGEOVER VALVE
The changeover valve is a normally open solenoid valve installed between the supply and return sides of the
heater coolant circuit. The changeover valve is located in the engine compartment on the engine bulkhead.
When de-energized, the changeover valve connects the heater coolant circuit to the engine coolant circuit.
When energized, the changeover valve isolates the heater coolant circuit from the engine coolant circuit.
The changeover valve is controlled by a power feed from the ATC module.

Circulation Pump
The circulation pump is installed at the coolant inlet to the FFBH unit to assist the coolant flow through the
FFBH unit and the heater assembly. The pump runs continuously while the FFBH unit is in standby or active
operating modes. While the FFBH unit is inactive, coolant flow is reliant on the engine coolant pump and the
auxiliary coolant pump. .

This might seem a stupid question and if so many apologies but did you have the heating dials turned to max ? 2015 4.4 AB

I had my local car parts shop put a proper tester on it. It has to be set to the correct agm setting and the. It puts a load on the battery I believe.
You can get a print out of the amps the voltage the charge percentage and the health percentage. Mine was at 45% charged after going from Southampton to Birmingham last week and the amps were well down also. Regards

So can I check the changeover valve without any dismantling of the inner wheel arches etc?

Not quite sure, but isn't the changeover valve on the engine compartment rear bulkhead. Taking the pollen filter assembly out might let you see it.

Can't do mine to look as off out and again tomorrow.

Agreed, but as it is "inline" with the FBH pipework, got to be easier to gain full access .

I could have sworn mine needs the dials on max to get the heat. If im wrong then i will stand corrected Thumbs Up i will conduct a test over the next two days. 2015 4.4 AB

no mention in RAVE or the 2007-10 manuals about needing to set the heat to max

FBH activity/ FBH park heating is determined by the external temperature / coolant temperature as monitored by the car .
