How brave are you feeling ?

I'd likely run it passenger side, over the back top rear (just under the bonnet) and down by the door hinges, then through there - either where the cables to the door already go, or drill a new hole, or see if you could tape it up out of the way - then through around the rear of the lower glove box.

Does the air box for the pollen filter come out easily, in a similar way to the L322 ?…… it might reveal an existing grommet hole ?

If what you are wiring is only for the duration of you owning the car it's usually possible to get the cable to the front passenger door opening from the engine bay and then tape the cable to the body above the top hinge, lift the inner door seal and run the cable over the seal mounting flange and into the car that way.
I would suggest a couple of layers of gorilla tape or similar over the flange and then tape the cable in position before fitting the door seal back in place.
Did this to my own car a few years ago and never had any bother to date.
The cable/tape can only be seen when the passenger door is open and looks quite neat, saves a lot of work.

Does the L405 differ from the L322 insomuch as access from the engine bay?

On my L322, I ran power and coax from my UHF radio through the grommet behind the battery. I removed the battery, then slip some stiffish wire (brazing rod or 16 gauge steel welding rod, if I recall correctly) through the grommet. I attached the 12V wiring to that and pulled it through, leaving a fair bit of slack. Then I attached the coax to the 12V wiring and continued pulling.

Spray cleaner/Detergent on the wiring makes it slippery and easier to pull through. Ron B. VK2OTC

What about near the steering wheel connection into the cabin it seems to run through a rubber boot through the bulkhead you might be able to squeeze it through that way !
