MacPaul - Did you need to take the air boxes apart or did you manage to move them enough as they are? I ask because I began the job taking LHS (near-side) air box apart and gave up after an hour because it seemed too difficult for me. MY23 D350 HSE

Hi Phil,

I separated the top of the airbox from the bottom.

(There are only six captive screws holding the two halves together).

On the RHS I undid the jubilee clips and took off the ducting as per my pics. Not necessary on the nearside.

You can then drape the top of the airbox toward the middle of the engine.

That then allows you simply to lift out the bottom half of the airbox which is simply a push-fit into three rubber-grommeted holes.

Once you've got the bottom of the airbox out of the way, you can take the little rubber cap off where the bulb lives.

If you weren't so far I'd do it for you - I'd be much quicker next time.

Has anyone tried running a 50w ballast with their L405 HIDs/housings? You can get them from retrofitsource and I’ve used them in the past and they do make quite a bit more light. 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

Can you be more specific? I have no idea what a 50W Ballast is - and if I go to the retrofit source website, they don't list Land Rover or Range Rover in their offerings. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

What wattage are the original bulbs? If 50W like the late L322s then the ballasts will also be 50W which will run 35W globes but the globes wont last as long as they should.

i'm pretty sure 50w bulbs are illegal in the UK...the standard is 35w... ... - .- -.

But that’s fine...just use the 50w ballasts with the stock HID capsules. Kind of a cheat code to get more lighting for you guys too. No one is going to test the wattage your unmarked ballast is putting out 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

I've done mine, simple enough job as has been explained earlier in the thread.
I bought the Philips X-tremevision Gen 2, only to find Osrams in the holders already, but no matter. I still did the change over and not much difference if I'm honest. Best thing I did was raise the headlight beam up a small amount to give better coverage.
The problem really is the lenses, they are just so poor at projecting the light forwards any great distance and with any sort of real depth.

My previous Audi A5 could have taught Land Rover a thing or two about headlights ... and reversing lights

I’ve just put in Osram cool blue advanced. I believe rates at 6000k @ 3200 lumens. These are 100% white with NO hint of yellow. Basically match the DRL perfectly if that’s what’s you want. It is what I wanted so I’m happy with the color. They haven’t broken in yet so hard to say about brightness but new I’d say about same as stock...just totally white.

But yea like above said. The lenses are these projectors are just junk for letting light out. If we had 100% clear lenses in them it would be much brighter output and sharper cutoff

I had Honda S2000 projectors in one retrofit I did long ago so I will always be biased. That’s was the GOAT projector for cutoff width and intensity 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

My eyes are getting older and the lights on my MY17 L405 are definitely getting dimmer.

Are the Osram's still the go to bulb replacement, or is there anything better on the market?

I have a pair of Osram Night Breaker DS3s which I removed from my L405 before I sold it.
