Has anyone tried these LED bulbs?

Hi all

Thinking about giving these a go in my main beams on my 55 plate L322.

Has anyone here tried them or anything similar?

I haven't tried those but you can't fit any with a fan or heatsink on the back.

Those should fit I think.

Yes I’ve seen the ones with the small fan and they look too big.

These appear to be the same size as the original bulbs.

Quote from listing:

Used for Daytime Running Light, Fog Light ONLY. (These bulbs are not suggested to be used as headlights, no high/low beam function)

I have some led bulbs with the rear rather bulky fans fitted to my secondary main beam headlights.
Granted they are difficult to fit but not impossible, it means taking the headlight off the car to fit them.
The light output is very impressive, had them on a couple of years now so probably due to fail soon.
Would definitely fit similar again.

Did you modify the metal clip that holds the bulb in to the housing?

Ive used the type with the aluminium webbed rope cooling strips on many different applications...

And they work brilliantly! Especially in high beam applications...

That said! They are now frowned upon by the MOT industry... Rolling Eyes

Have you got a link to anything, Craig?

I'd like the brightest possible on my 2008 TDV8.

Didn't need to modify it, but I did take it off and repositioned it, I think I moved it through 180 degrees from memory. As I said difficult to fit but not impossible.

Thank you Craig.

I got some bulbs a bit similar to that but with more of a heat sink or the back, not the metal braided wire.

Problem was, I couldn't work out how to get them to stay in the light enclosure. The metal retaining clip which is use with a normal halogen bulb wouldn't fit over the back of the led bulb.

Often the plastic part of the LED bulb, the bit that takes the shape of the original bulb securing/locating ring turns 45/90 degrees and slides off! This allows you to fit the holder, then fit the bulb with a quarter/half turn to lock it in place sir... 👍

Thanks for that Craig. Very thick of me not to notice that the plastic bit comes off. Still not sure they'll fit though.

Hi all

Back in the UK now so just fitted these LED bulbs to Sylvia. Fitting was very easy, just a straight swap and to make things easier I removed the complete headlight unit so all in all around about a 25 minute job.

Much whiter and no error messages on my 55 plate TD6.

I’ll test them out tonight when I go to pick up the weekend Chinese. 20 miles mostly on unlit country lanes. I report back tomorrow.

£11.39 off EBay

Before with standard H7’s

Halfway

Finished

Jim
