Ignoring potential classics and low volume stuff most cars roughly follow the halve in value every 3 years rule of thumb. Certainly works for Fords, Pugs, GM and the typical high volume stuff. So for the Westie that would be something like £88k new? £44 in three years; £22 when 6 and £11 at 9 - albeit needing adjustment for milage. Even so, I'd say an eight year old one with low milage is doing well enough at £17... Mike - MPx

Drove my colleague's new BMW i3 - practically doesn't need brakes as soon as you take your foot off the go pedal, the regenerative brakes pull hard.

That thing won't need new brake pads anytime soon. Cheers, Greg

I have just been offered £17k trade in for my 2012 Westie (65k miles and FSH) against a £28k RS6, with no movement on the RS6 price at all. So - until the stealers can confirm the replacement coolant pipes and rear oil seal with the previous owner of the RS6 and find the paperwork, it's no deal Rolling Eyes Current: FF Westminster money pit

I traded my FF in two years ago but still look at what’s for sale and am surprised how prices have plummeted during this time. It’s very tempting to get another and run it alongside my ultra reliable and trouble free (that’s jinxed it) Mitsubishi L200

You cannot judge if £17k is a good price for the Westie without knowing if £28k for the RS6 is the right price. RS6's may be rare and hard to compare. Likelihood is that they're knocking £1k or £2k off the Audi and then plumping up the PX offer, but it's all the same price to change at the end of the day.

I prefer to negotiate the price of the car as if paying cash. And then talk PX. That way you can cherry pick your deal.

Finally... DON'T GO TO AUDI! Keep your Westie for a couple more years, I bet it's amazing. Thumbs Up Change in 2022. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

I don’t think that it is just L322 prices that are dropping it appears to be all diesel cars with engines larger that 2.5L

I have been looking for a decent 2012 Westie for a while now and have seen their prices drop around £4000 over the last year when comparing like for like vehicles. You only have to look on autotrader to find L405’s with less than 50k miles FSH and a good spec in the late £20k’s.

A few days ago I used CarWow to get a price on a VW Tourag (please don’t judge me!) and was offered 19.7% off the price of a new build car.

With various towns and cities making rumblings about banning diesel vehicles in the near future I think that we will see prices slide more this year....

Jim

Prices probably will slide a bit more.

Local authorities need to think very hard about the way various "improvements" are killing off the town/city centres - if I cannot have the option to drive into the town/city centre (most of the time I will take the bus/use park then ride) then my money will not be spent there.

My local town centre High Street is 50/50 pedestrianised. The pedestrianised part is simply where the local riff-raff congregate after going to the Benefits Office. Still, if you fancy a spliff the air is that heavy with the stuff you just need to inhale !

Open the High Street to traffic again & make the parking free but limited before all of the shops go.[/i] 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6
