not quite yet... I have a couple of days of thinking time... lots of emotions...

It is a big choice for me... My wife died of cancer a couple of years ago... so the car I sell is the car that we got when child 3 was born (now 7)... I am also using some of her life insurance money to buy this car to follow my dreams...

I think I will do it but need to process it in my mind first...

I would firmly recommend you not to buy it.

If I were using a windfall of life insurance money, I would buy a low-mileage Range Rover of model-year 2015 (maybe 2016 or 2017), and again, I would drive a much harder bargain with the dealer.

Make a search on Mobile.de for cars with less than 50000 km on the odometer, and from 2015 and later. You will be amazed by how much money you can save.

Some of the so-called advice you are getting on this thread is outright disinformation.

United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Santorini Black

^for example.

My 2016 4.4SDV8 AB:

New price £110,000

To me used.... 4 years old from Main dealer with 38,000 miles.... £41,000.

That’s a lot of cash to lose in 4 years.🙄

But it IS your money so do what you want to. It’s a nice looking thing. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Sad to hear of your loss.

Take your time. The car won't disappear overnight. Be sure what you want to do. The two posts above make very good points. John

£2 an hour is about the correct figure for main dealer sales reps wages when furlough ends and no one buys cars for a while because of the job losses. I think buying a new rangie at the min is brave. Don't be surprised if the cars we buy now are 10k or more cheaper in a few months. Thumbs Up

Thank you for worrying about me. The life insurance is giving me the ability to do this. I have a good job. It more of loaning myself the money to do it now than wait until I retire. I plan to keep this car until I retire and maybe upgrade again then. So about in 15 years. During that time I won't be looking at the prices thinking about what I have lost, I will be out driving and living my dream... Life it too short not do these things if you can...

I think that I am getting a good deal: New: €178,000 Now: €116,000

I really want the car of my dreams... I think I am at about 90% yes...

It is your money. Do what you like to do with it.

Personally, I tend to buy used ones. That is what I can afford. If I could afford new, I'd buy new. Never on lease or finance. Straight cash. Lease and finance is living beyond means, however someone tried to justify it.

Get it and enjoy - you know you want too. Asking on this, or any forum, will get you plenty of differing opinions but in the end its your decision. If it makes you happy why listen to anyone else, there's enough confusion in this world without looking for more. Geoff

Living beyond ones means? Only if you can't afford it in the first place. Finance is perfectly ok especially if you have other cash commitments and don't want to spend a lump of cash. All LR cars from 1984

I agree with jackcramerr. I’ve bought all my vehicles outright with cash. I don’t believe in car loans. Plus I’ve found out if you can afford the car in cash you pretty easily and quickly re-bank that money spent. 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC
