I need a transmission sump plug for my 2004 diesel L322as the one in place is badly burred and I doubt if I'll get it back in. Part number, I think, is TYB500100. Island 4x4 haven't got any and LR direct tell me it's obsolete - cheeky sods.
Has anybody got one to spare? Or know an infallible source?

Is it the sump plug on the bottom or the filler plug on the side? For the TD6?

For the filler plug, I had to get mine from Latvia. [https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-BMW-E46-E53-E83-Estate-SUV-Outer-Hexagon-Screw-Plug-OEM-24117507787/132471433040] Contrary to what the picture shows, this is the filler plug towards the front of the gearbox, with a hex head. This is the plug under the BMW part number.

P38, I begin to suspect you're right. Advanced factors and LRDirect have both sent my money back and Island 4x4 can't get any. It's wreckers or get an old sump and hang around Supercheap and Boltmasters.
I agree they're not quite rocket science, but I really don't want one dripping oil, or working loose.

If it's not refitted, take with you to SuperCrap or Boltmaster. If you don't have any pitch gauges, the latter will tell you the size.

This is the type of sump plug I fitted to my engine while awaiting the helicoll kit. Notice the o-ring seal. It didn't leak. I got it at SuperCrap.

BTW, I think your part no. is incorrect. What's your VIN? Less than 5A000001?

If it's a TD6 then it's the GM5L40E transmission which is used on vareity of other vehicles abliet in slightly different configurations, e.g. 2WD M82 version on BMW E46 or E39 diesels or even some Holden Commodores over there.

I know the filters change slightly between models but can't believe the sump plug is any different between them, it'll be a standard metric size (M16 or M18 no doubt).
Just have to think laterally, search for the gearbox itself and not what's fitted to as Land Rover didn't make the gearbox.

find a near match nut and bolt. Weld nut to sump over hole and use the accompanying bolt ( with a washer of course )

Gentlemen, thanks for your thoughts. I was looking at wreckers and possibly buying the whole sump pan, but the idea of searching by box number hit the spot. I find that this box is fitted to BMW 3 and 5 series, and more to the point, to Holden Commodores 2004 to 2010.
I should be able to buy a Commodore plug in Woolworths.
