+1 got to agree there. I remember them being launched in 1970, it was the V8 that made it stand out from everything else and it still does. The sound of a V8 is magical and my heart still skips when I hear that unmistakable V8 beat especially lugging from low revs. IMHO nothing anywhere comes close.

Maybe in the future I will be forced to go electric - but at the moment there is no way I am being a guinea pig with £100k motor with a 30 mile range - I just do not see the point in it - to use up the 30 miles and then be stuck with a screaming 4cyl 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Two week cooling off period expired. Guys, drive the P400e ‘in the real world’ and then make judgements about this drivetrain vs a 5.0 SC. I did a Cotswolds blast last week and it was simply perfect. Crap fuel economy (vs a diesel, I am certain better than a 5.0)! But great performance and experience. And point of fact: on the very rare occasions you boot it to 4000+ rpm and can actually hear the engine, the 1700w Signature hifi hides all. 5.0 SC is a redundant drivetrain, long live the 4 pot! Rolling with laughter

Hopefully moderators will close this thread now so I’ve had the last word. Rolling Eyes L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

United Kingdom 2019 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Carpathian Grey

I’m now driving a new P300 Defender after owning an SDV8 L405 for a couple of years. I have to say that I find the 2.0 litre 4 cylinder engine remarkably refined. It wafts around like my RR and I find it a very relaxing car to drive. This is also after having a brief ownership of an SVR F-Pace. Yes, it doesn’t have the grunt of the SDV8 but in day to day driving it’s not an issue for me. 2019 L405 SDV8 Autobiography

I’m interested in trying the 400bhp petrol in the Defender when it’s available - 0-60 in 5.7 seconds that’s FFRR Supercharged territory 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

2018 Range Rover SVAutobiography 5.0 SC V8 Santorini Black

I traded my SVA in for a P400 X Defender as I got stung for depreciation when I traded my L322 in too late back when the L405 was announced and vowed never to do that again. I got a great part exchange figure and whilst the Defender is almost £50k cheaper @ £90k, it is seriously impressive. Refinement is in line with my SVA, build quality is significantly better and the vehicle is much more spacious.

I do not miss the 5L at all; the 3L MHEV has instantaneous performance and is truly excellent.

I ordered it as soon as Defender was announced and waited 11 months for delivery as they didn’t start building the 110 X until September.

I don’t think it’s limited as such but the price will likely put off most Defender owners as it’s well and truly in RR/RRS when fully loaded.

We are truly impressed - the only thing I miss is massage seats which sadly aren’t available.

I cannot stress enough that the car is so much more solid feeling than the L405. So far it’s also absent of creaks and rattles and stupid electrical gremlins which totally detracted from the 2 SVAs I owned.

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Causeway Grey

I’ve got a P300 Defender 90 on order and I’ll be running it alongside my SDV8 FF. I’m really interested to see which vehicle I end up preferring from a driving point of view. I test drove a D240 Defender 110 and I did think that when I got into my FF after the test drive the Range Rover was still on another level in terms of luxury feel and cabin refinement, but in terms of driving experience I have a feeling the Defender will be better once I get some miles on my one. Tom

Very interesting that.

What is acceleration like? Does it feel quick and agile like an RRS? Tbh Ive not driven the latest one but did enjoy the 550bhp one I drove.... all smug in my new plug!

There is no lag which I’m guessing is due to the engine being a MHEV and the electric motor kicking in/assisting it.

Official stats are 0-62 in circa 6 seconds but it feels quick and sounds good too.

I wouldn’t say it’s particularly agile round the bends; definitely more roll than the SVA but consequently is much smoother on uneven roads with a softer suspension setup.

What is it like from 30 to 70 as that is the only time brutal acceleration is important. letters not necessarily in the right order

I do like the new Defender, and this is an interesting thread. I can see why you’d move from FF to one. Yet to see one here in the flesh Big Cry

I love the idea of 90 spec’d up to the hilt, kinda reminds me of a late 3-door classic.

When the Defender so good, sort of makes the Disco a little irrelevant? IMO. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior
