Another case of “They all do that, Sir” Very Happy

I was quite chuffed that was the only fault stored to be honest. Just need to find time to get it in for an MOT now!

I did, my tow bar wasn't in the receiver so I popped it out with a long 1/2" extension.

With the tow bar stuck in you might be able to prize it off with a small screwdriver.

Few more jobs done today...

The reversing camera was intermittent and had a black line scrolling up and down it so I ordered a replacement from PowerfulUK.

Before

After

Whilst I had the spoiler off the car I noticed the high level brake light was faded and hazy so I wet sanded, polished and sealed it with a UV protector so that looks better now.

I noticed whilst doing the camera that the rear screen washer wasn’t working. I removed the motor and cleared it with the airline which cured the not working fault. However, it was leaking badly into the boot. Thanks to Alan’s guide I’ve ordered the seal to rebuild it. Hopefully it’s here soon.

I then moved onto the badges. The Supercharged one was a cheap chrome one that looked horrible so a replacement was fitted. There retail are nearly 80 quid! Thankfully I managed to get a genuine one on eBay for 15 quid. The LR logo was badly delaminating and the lettering was looking a bit tired too so I replaced them all. A genuine LR oval was around 8 quid. I decided I didn’t want them Brunel badges as I prefer the more modern look of titan silver Smile

The lettering that was on the bonnet had previously been chrome as well. It had started to delaminate and most of it was just yellow plastic so I replaced them too.

The tow bar receiver has had a couple more coats of paint so can be refitted tomorrow and then I just need the fan shroud to arrive from Rob at Duckworths and then we can get an MOT on her.

Looking good.

Can you hear the noisy supercharger bearings from inside the car when driving?

No, even with the bonnet open, the noise isn’t loud. It’s most noticeable with the bonnet open and engine cover removed.

I moved the SC to give it a wash today and noticed that the rear window was steamed up.

There was a small amount of water on the left hand side of the spare wheel well, a few drops at most. I also noticed that all of the electrics in on the left hand side of the boot we damp.

The old Bluetooth module was destroyed with water when i got the car. It had been bypassed though and there is a water shedder fitted so I was hoping the leak had been cured but I might be wrong.

I had a good feel around it and it felt ok but seeing as the car hasn’t been driven, there’s not a lot else it can be as far as I can think of. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Had it’s first bath today. Was a bit OTT with it and did a 5 stage wash.

Needs some trim restorer on the mudflaps, the side vents need changing for the others I’ve bought when I can finally go and get them, and the wheels definitely need to go back to silver. Other then that, it’s a good looking car Smile

As for 13 pin towing electrics, after buying my FFRR, went to tow a new horse box, found it was 13 pin, found a conversion connector, plugs into my electrics, then plug 13 pin from trailer into that, worked perfectly. Best bit was it was about £7, cheap like me!
Might be a bit 'Teaching granny to suck eggs' bit, but as for bearings in pulley wheels, chuck them into the freezer the night before and warm the pulley wheels, bearings will simply 'fall into place'
As for taking a punt on the unsighted fatty - major Bow down to you Sir.

Thanks. Smile

The 13 pin socket is handy for the caravan as it’ll charge the leisure battery. I’m also in the process of rewiring our tilt bed trailer so the car will charge the winch battery. It’s also handy to be able to charge the battery through the 13 pin socket.

Interesting point about putting the bearings in the freezer. I’d not considered that. Tbh, they didn’t take a lot of force in the vice. Quite a satisfying job to do as the results are great with a lovely quiet engine and a cheap fix without throwing stuff away.

I’ve been quite lucky compared to what I could’ve been!

I work on vlcc's deep sea, so we always have loads of bearings, for inside fitting, we always freeze them to minus 20/22,and for fitting bearings on shafts etc,we heat the bearings, usually by induction ( and / or freeze the shafts ), at home only way to heat is in oven or place in poly bag and heat in hot water, with sealed bearings, general rule of thumb is only heat up to 85 to 90 degree max
Mind you, at sea we have freezer rooms to use. Have fun, will keep reading to see how you get on, thanks for the posts, have already picked up some tips about the fatty.

Rob
