United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Baltic Blue

The SC is back together and is out of the garage now.

The fan shroud was broken so I need to order one up. I don’t want to leave it off as it’s obviously there for a reason.

I wanted to give it a wash today but it’s been between -1 and -3 all day and the outside taps were frozen.

I’ve not been far with it today but the gearbox on it is absolutely perfect. I was worried that after resetting the adaptions it might drive horribly for a few miles but it’s been silky smooth from the get go today. Up and down the box was like silk and when kicking it down it was perfect.

Jobs left to do:

Wheels refurbished back to silver.
Remove chrome side vents and fit standard ones.
Fix reversing camera.

Other then that, she’s driving spot on.

It’s definitely a Supercharged one anyway Very Happy

Once lockdown is over I’ll give our local detailer a shout and see if he’ll do a full paint correction on it for me.

Why don’t you ask if anyone on here wants black wheels? Maybe cheaper to swap them than paint them?

I did ask on the Facebook Group, didn’t think of asking on here actually.

Whilst moving the SC on the drive today I noticed that if it’s sat in gear at idle with your foot on the brake there is a slight lumpiness from the engine. If you move it into neutral or park it goes away.

If the car is warm it’s silky smooth so only seems to affect it when it’s cold.

I’ll do some reading and see if I can find anything, failing that, I might get a proper smoke test done on it in case there’s a vacuum leak somewhere.

I shouldn’t waste too much time or effort David, most that come in here do the exact same thing! Only when cold and always when sat in gear... Including wifeys 200k non SC LPG’d 👍

That’s interesting to know, thanks Craig. Thumbs Up

I don’t remember my old one doing it but I didn’t sit with it in gear and stationary when it was cold very often either.

I must admit I put wifeys missing down to it running on LPG so when cold, may be injectors???

But the more that have been in, the more that do it! We have a decent length drive and reversing down it when the cars cold shows it at its worst...

As I said David, I wouldn’t waste too much time on it 👍

Thanks Craig.

The only time I notice it is when I’m trying to manoeuvre to hitch the trailer on. Usually I turn around in the yard and am straight out onto the road so I can’t see it bothering me too much!

I did wonder about the LPG but mine was doing it on petrol today before it had even switched over to LPG.

Censored .

I went to refit the viscous fan this evening and found that it wouldn’t go onto the mounting.

I removed the mounting from the car and noticed that one has NA written on it, one has SC written on it. Looking a bit closer, one has a left hand thread, one doesn’t. 😩

Last time I tried to split the old one to replace the bearings, with the press at full pressure it wouldn’t budge so that rules out being able to swap the front part over.

Looking back through emails, it was me who ordered the wrong part from Rob. Annoyingly the part number is 1 digit different, this one ends 480, the one I need ends 490. That was a 100 quid mistake I won’t make twice! If anyone needs one for a 4.4 NA engine, give me a shout Smile

The tow bar on the car was pretty crusty and hadn’t had the bung in it so the removable bit wouldn’t fit into the receiver. I got it back from being blasted today which has tidied it up nicely.

I gave it a couple of coats of Hammerite black spray paint tonight. You won’t see any of it but the round receiver when it’s fitted but at least it’ll look much tidier on the back of the car.

Once the paint has dried I’ll give the inside a coating of grease and will take the trailer up and down the lane to ensure it’s still a tight fit and isn’t rattling or loose.

On a happier note, I cleared the faults before it came out of the workshop, it’s done a few miles and the only stored fault is for the TMC - Traffic Message. I can live with that. Smile

I spun it when the belt was off and it felt pretty gritty and noisy so replaced it whilst the belt was off.
