The petrol injectors have now been refurbished and are on there way back to me now.

Some of them weren’t far out at all and the worst ones weren’t even a mile out but it’s nice to know the petrol injectors are properly sorted now the LPG has been removed.



The old spark plugs had only done about 4 or 5k miles but for the sake of another £65 I thought I’d change them whilst everything was in bits as it’s all going back together new now. They’ve arrived today so that’s one less thing to arrive.

I’ve got one more part to arrive and we’re done parts wise.

I’ve not been able to get in touch with the bloke who does the thread repairs this week so I’ve been trying to think how I can drill it out.

This is the sheered bolt sticking out of the side of the block when viewed from the front passengers side of the car.

That was two years ago and it's still in regular use, it appears to be the same as the Sealey branded version but ~1/2 price.

I'm not sure superglue will have the strength to hold your guide in place, if it was one of my jobs, I'd grind or file the remains flat, drill a bit of plate using the engine mount, or whatever is held in place by the four bolts as a template and tack a guide onto that, which you could use for both drilling and tapping. But it's your job not mine, so whatever you're happy with.

That’s the same idea as the drill I’ve ordered this evening.

It’s an interference fit on the stud that needed to be hammered on, the superglue was more for belt and braces. Normally I’d cut it flush and do it that way too but access down the side isn’t that wonderful and to see it straight on you’re working through the wheel arch.

With a bit of luck this will do the trick.

Fair enough, photo's can give a false perspective sometimes - do you have some stub drills? I find they're better for getting the cut started as they put less side load on the guide, once a couple of millimetres in past the 'point', that's when I change to a longer fast flute bit - they tend to form chips rather than lots of long swarf so take the heat away from the cutting face quicker.
I'm probably teaching granny....

I’m probably going to have to use the stub drills we’ve got due to access to be honest. There’s not much room in there trying to work between the block and the chassis leg with the dipstick tube poking up in the middle.

Done! The sheered bolt is dealt with!

Access was only possible using a 90 degree angle air drill on the airline.

The 5mm drill I was using last night did this to the bolt. There’s a slot in it as I tried to cut a slot in it and unscrew it but it was waaaaay to tight for that.

Excellent job on the extraction...

Yep, nice job on the extraction - looking at the size of the torque wrench, you should be OK but watch out for going over limit when using the angle setting, I lent my small one to another tech a while back, he was doing 30Nm + 180deg. the wrench was rated at 35Nm and the +180 took it into 'fault' territory... it still passed calibration checks but had an annoying 'E1' every time it was turned on.

I've been changing inlet manifolds on my 3.6 TDV8 today, easy enough until I found one of the bolts for the OS engine mount had been cross-threaded, managed to drill & re-tap from below, still a PITA to do - not sure who to blame, production or whoever replaced the RH turbo....

This one goes up to 300lbft. The head bolts I think are 70Nm plus 180 degrees so hoping it should be ok.

Since I started working on this car in January last year I’ve had to repair several threads that have been butchered by other people who have been working on the car. I guess it’s just the joys of buying a well used car!
