TDV8 4.4 Belt Help Needed

Changed belt tensioner but after 5 minutes running belt shredded. Indy has fitted new belt but it has shredded again. All pulleys look fine. Any ideas?

Have been through the wiki. Don't understand why a tensioner change should cause belt failure after 5 minutes. Then another new belt failure immediately. Any other ideas?

If you can rule out the obvious first, such as pulley damage, pulley mis-alignment, or simply catching on something.

I'd then take a look at the driven ancillaries, especially the a/c compressor and check it's running freely with A/C on (clutch engaged).

Also check out the alternator and then ensure the radiator fan can spin freely. If the blades are caught, you wouldn't know until the engine was hot and the viscous coupling has engaged.

Solved the problem. Indy has replaced the tensioner I fitted with a genuine one and it’s now fine.

The one I bought from John Craddock made by Britpart was utter rubbish. Ridges on the pulley were forcing the belt off and snagging it. After a quick google it seems Britpart are to be avoided.

Rather cross with retailer as web picture is of a genuine part.

This has cost me two belts and 8 hours labour.

You can see the problem on the photo.

I bought something from John Craddock listed as, and shown in pic as genuine and it came as Britpart.
Complained and they were not bothered.

. Cheers, Greg

I’ve sent them the photo and will follow it up with a report from the Indy.

Will give them a chance to do the right thing.

More news when I have it.

i just had all of mine done and the tension pully that came off after 115k looked in better shape than that.
i think the tensioner i used was genuine got them from Advanced Factors and Rimmer Bro's as neither had all items in stock. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

Same here. The pulley on the old one with 120k looked fine. But the the belt was running right up to the edge so needed changing.

I'm not a Britpart fan, some of there stuff is ok and I've used bits & bobs on Defender's and RR Classics in the past, but wouldn't use anything from them on either of my L322's.

I've had failures of new Britpart components (and 'All-Make' ones for that matter), when offroading in the middle of knowhere and not been in the slightest impressed! So lessons learnt.

There are some good alternative part suppliers for our beloved cars and so far I've been impressed with discs from Borg & Beck, front lower arms from Delphi, suspension bushes & rear knuckles from Lemforder and brake pads from Brembo. Pretty much everything else though needs to be Genuine IMHO.

Engine all now running fine with new genuine tensioner. Now in discussion with John Craddock over their liability for selling such shoddy parts. Interesting to note that they have now changed the web page for this item and it no longer shows a picture of a genuine part box.
