Frustration of owning a Rangey

FF is out of warranty so think it’s now time to start maintaining it myself, fairly handy with spanner’s so no worries.

Get service parts ordered in, realise FFS I ordered a 9L oil drainer by mistake.
Think to myself send it back Rob, you need to tackle the noisy idlers anyway . Do them 1st while 10L one isn’t available.

Idler parts sourced & do that pig of a job. Finish up & all quiet, result. Test run & no issues👍

Commute to work BONG restricted performance, iiD looks like an air leak in intakes somewhere.
Have a fiddle with it & test drive BONG is back, ok need to smoke test it
Pull onto drive & loads of smoke appears, hmm this isn’t the smoke test I planned🤔 aarrghh sticking rear calliper.

Time to tackle the calliper 1st then, can’t road test without doing it.

Time to jack it up then & assess what I need. Pop pssssssssfffffttttttt & we all know what that is🤬

Thanks for listening, rant over.

Beer time!!!!

Sorry to hear of your woes. I have a perfectly good rear left caliper for the cost of the postage if it helps you out.

Hi Rob. Yes it is off my 2011 car. The right hand one suddenly started to seize and the piston was in a right rusted state, so I replaced both calipers. I took the piston out the left one and it is virtually unmarked. The piston pushes in easily just with finger pressure and when I applied a bit of air pressure to it the piston withdraws a little when the air is let off as it's meant to. PM me mate if you want it.

Cheers Jay,
I could have done with this a couple of weeks ago, looks like he was doing it at similar time to me looking at when he’s posted it. would have been really handy.

He’s made that look easy. Space is the issue you just cant get at stuff making it frustrating & there’s a bolt hidden behind the turbo actuator I’d do it pretty quickly the 2nd time around now I know it.

The viscose fan he struggled with was actually really easy for me once I’d made the tool. 2011 (MY12) 4.4 TDV8 Vogue

Got DM thanks Kev.
Just replied.

FYI Think it sits in your outbox until it’s read by the recipient.

you can get a pair of new rear calipers for about £70 delivered though most aftermarket ones seem to be steel rather than aluminum. work fine though.

as its a common failure point, at that price its almost worth replacing them even if the original ones are still working fine to avoid potential problems. 2010 VSE [Roger]

I had mine replaced £128 for original TRW ones, heck the labour cost to put a fixing kit or just clean the old ones would have been more. I totally agree, considering the low cost of these it’s not worth it to mess about with them in my opinion.

I wish I could say the same for the front 🤣
