Installed Unique Auto Developments (ID core) Apple CarPlay solution. Was a proper faff getting all the dash and trim off to be able to remove the head unit. However, it’s completely achievable for a novice with patience and a few photos.

Whilst I was in there, I was able to swap out the instrument cluster cooling fan that’s behind the steering column with a used one from eBay (but 3 years younger so 🤞) I’d been getting the B12FE-13 (2 Fan - General electrical failure - circuit open fault intermittently so hoping that solves it.

All back together again now and working perfectly. Only 3 dash fixing screws left over at the end so hope they’re not essential! 😂 Andy

At long last, what began as a simple front caliper refurbishment turned into a full overhaul. All the suspension arms, drop links, and steering arms have been replaced with Lemförder parts. I also re-greased and re-booted the drive shafts, new ABS sensors brake hoses etc, etc and finished with a complete coolant flush — 11 litres in total. It’s finally finished!

Changed the plugs and filters. Surprisingly long job.
(Rear plugs are a faff to do)

Oiled the towing socket on towbar as it stopped dropping down.

Finally got around to two small jobs that have been bugging me for some time.

Firstly modified the Sprinter jack with the new adapter head. Now much more stable although somewhat limits what I can use it for now.

Passed the MOT with flying colours (7 June) and ordered 5 General Grabber AT3s (to be fitted on Sat 14th followed by 4-wheel alignment), new lower tailgate straps and strut & a tailgate button cover.

Managed to remove the locking wheel nuts and replace with standard. I had thought that they may prove difficult, but they did not cause an issue. They were not as far gone as I had thought.

...not strictly today, but last weekend (I've only just had chance to decompress!) my trusty L405 was a 'support' vehicle for a car competing in 'Street Weekend 2025' which is a drag racing event run jointly by Santa Pod Raceway and Melbourne Raceway in York.

Street Legal drag race cars start at Santa Pod in Northamptonshire and complete a 1/4 mile pass on Friday, then drive up to Melbourne Raceway in York via pre-designated checkpoints, before completing at least 2 runs on the 1/8th mile on Saturday and then returning to Santa Pod via another 2 check points before completing some 1/4 mile passes on the Sunday at Santa Pod then the 3 best times are added together for a culmulative total, with the overall winner being the lowest time.

In total it is over 400 miles of road driving.

Some friends were taking part in a 1967 'Cal-Look' VW Beetle with a 2276cc Engine, a 1983 VW Passat that has been retro-fitted with a twin-turbo V6 and 4WD from an Audi S4, and a 1975 VW Passat Coupe with a 2500bhp twin-turbo LS V8.

We followed behind in the RR and even ended up sleeping in it up at York!

All on one tank of Diesel too

The checkpoints this year were Caffeine and Machine near Stratford upon Avon, Hassop Station Cafe in the peak district on the way up, then the Lincolnshire Aviation Museum and Belvoir Castle on the way back.

The '75 Passat won the event overall with a best time on the 1/4 mile of 7.39 seconds

New ipo (mot equivalent) 4 new tyres and alignment.

Good for another year, scraped all the rust off and painted the underside about 5 years ago, could do with another coat of paint before next inspection

amazing how things don't deteriorate without all the salt that's used in the UK

Did some tidying up jobs under the bonnet. Cleaned and rust treated a couple of wee brackets. Replaced rusty, worn, air filter housing screws, and a damn good clean. Four hours in total.

I "investigated" some shoddy non-standard wiring in the boot of my car. Turns out that it was to a tracker, from Trafficmaster, which had a date of 2012 on it. So I suspect that it was dealer installed when the car was new. I removed it. Hopefully the battery drain will be ever so slightly lower now.

After investigating some non-standard wiring in the boot area the other day, and discovering it to be a tracker, today I investigated some non-standard wiring behind the dash, and it appears to be... another tracker! I can't find the "box" though, without dismantling more of the car.
I'm doing more dismantling of the car than driving it at the moment!
