Rear wheel bearing 2011 tdv8

Have a strange wind tunnel like noise from drivers side....
Diagnosed to rear drivers wheel bearing. Done via a stethoscope on each hub carrier whilst car dangling just off the ground on the scissor lift and in Drive..
Advanced Factors do a £25 kit with a FAG bearing...

Wasn't the wheel bearing. Odd.
New tyres going on soon. I bloody hope that fixes it. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

My SC has a noise similar to this but it comes on suddenly at 60mph and goes as soon as you get to 71mph.

I’ve gotten that fed up with it I’ve got a front diff and 4 wheel bearings to swap out when I get time. I did have a rear diff but it turned out to be the wrong one so has been returned.

Hopefully new tyres fix yours.

Dr Rob, are you sure it’s not one of the bushes? I had a similar issue on the SC and I replaced the bearing but it didn’t get rid of the drone but then I replaced the top rose and bottom bush and it’s been fine since.

Regards

John

Someone will no doubt correct me if I'm srong, but I recall early L322's being fitted with, I think, Goodyear Wrangler tyres and it was found that when part worn they generated a noise not unlike a worn wheel bearing. In the US I believe tyres were often replaced under warranty for this issue (not in the UK obviously!). in 2007 I had a 2003 M62 engined L322 with Wranglers and it did indeed make a noise like worn wheel bearings on part worn tyres. By this time LR were fitting Pirelli Scorpion as OE, so I replaced with these and no more issues. Drives:

I sometimes have a similar noise. Turn on air recirculating and goes away.

It's coming from outside and not through the vents. I've heard a whistling noise before through vents though. Totally different. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Dr Rob,

Yes, both 260 and 644.

You should be fine with AF parts as there is a cautionary tale here, specifically with the rose joint #260

https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic61066.html

No issue with #644 as it has the circlip #010 retaining it.

Also, just check your tyres first. Just try swapping the wheels round and then drive the car to see if there isn't any internal issue with the integrity. I say this as I note that there are a number of Full Fat's that fail, or have an advisory, on their MOT's relating to a bulge in the tyre. Just a thought.

regards

John

Have you tried adjusting the tailgate spoiler? I had to remove mine to fix wiper arm, refitted and had whistling noise after 60mph, adjusted to make sure even gaps on either side and hey presto no noise. Worth a try ?

Noise is there from virtually 10mph upwards.
New tyres soon anyway. If that doesn't cure it then look elsewhere.... Whistle Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Disc is a tad too hot so new caliper time. Could even be source of noise...wasn't the bearing. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Callipers were fine. Pads were poor so changed for TRW ones.
