Dr Rob, are you sure it’s not one of the bushes? I had a similar issue on the SC and I replaced the bearing but it didn’t get rid of the drone but then I replaced the top rose and bottom bush and it’s been fine since.

Someone will no doubt correct me if I'm srong, but I recall early L322's being fitted with, I think, Goodyear Wrangler tyres and it was found that when part worn they generated a noise not unlike a worn wheel bearing. In the US I believe tyres were often replaced under warranty for this issue (not in the UK obviously!). in 2007 I had a 2003 M62 engined L322 with Wranglers and it did indeed make a noise like worn wheel bearings on part worn tyres. By this time LR were fitting Pirelli Scorpion as OE, so I replaced with these and no more issues. Drives:

I sometimes have a similar noise. Turn on air recirculating and goes away. |

It's coming from outside and not through the vents. I've heard a whistling noise before through vents though. Totally different. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Have you tried adjusting the tailgate spoiler? I had to remove mine to fix wiper arm, refitted and had whistling noise after 60mph, adjusted to make sure even gaps on either side and hey presto no noise. Worth a try ? |

Disc is a tad too hot so new caliper time. Could even be source of noise...wasn't the bearing. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Callipers were fine. Pads were poor so changed for TRW ones.
