United States 2016 Range Rover HSE 3.0 SC V6 Santorini Black

Unfortunately it is not a nice 6 cylinder from BMW. It’s a home grown JLR Ingenium 6 that has be given the hybrid treatment. Regardless of how good this unit may or may not prove to be in time, I would not personally choose to beta test it for JLR in a brand new platform. It’s got hard shoulder of the motorway waiting for a flatbed written all over it.

The Ingenium engines have been in JLR cars since 2015. The only current L405 that doesn't have Ingenium engines in it are the V8 ones as far as I know.

The L405 PHEV is using a Ingenium 4 cylinder. If anything Ingenium plus PHEV has been tested in the L405 PHEV and has been on the market since 2018. However in the L460 the system will be in a platform made for pure electric and PHEV, so the batteries will be in a space designed for them, not raising the boot floor and the batteries will be bigger. Also the Ingenium engine will have 50% more displacement and 50% more cylinders.

Does anyone know if there are known issues with the Ingenium engine?

As for the BMW V8 used in the non-hybrid L460, it is also not a brand new engine. Search for "BMW N63 class action lawsuit". Hopefully the oil consumption issues with that engine have been solved by now.

It depletes quite quickly in hybrid mode, as far as I understand from people who have one.

I assume you mean the L405, because no one has any of the L460 PHEVs yet. They L405s have a much smaller battery than the L460 will have. There are new modes for conserving battery in the L460 to preserve battery for the destination.

The only consequence the batteries have is a lover riding height, and not being able to have a full size spare

It looks like a reduced size spare is available in the new PHEV. Do you know if the reason the full size spare is not offered is because of lack of room or because it weighs more? I wonder if it would be possible to buy a full size spare and put it there. Personally the spare is a concern for me as I occasionally go off road or on roads far away from civilization. Maybe a reduced size could work in a pinch. L405 2016 - Supercharged V6 petrol 380hp

A slightly different take on the need for charging infrastructure at home for the PHEV.

My car sits still overnight and a PHEV will, in fact, be able to charge overnight from a three pin socket. Having recently had quotes for a charger, I’ve decided that the cost/benefit doesn’t stack up so I’ll just use the three pin socket. I’ll then review that when prices come down once grants end and volumes increase.

We’ve had a home charger for over a year - it was “free” with a Merc we had

It’s basically a 7kw 32a 1ph supply direct from ours mains incomer

It charges quicker, and is a non-descript box on the garage wall, handy to get home and just plug the car in 😂 it’s going to be the new normal in 5 years

In this Harry's Garage video, between 10.30 and 13.30 minutes, he talks about mpg's he's been getting on his L405 PHEV (approx 67 / 68 average) and the fact that he's also installed a small wind turbine which provides enough energy to power the car all year!!

A thought if like me you live somewhere that's often windy. Where I live is at the top of a valley, so I think I might look into this.

Video here:

Yep, when it’s free, the cost/ benefit works Very Happy . My bet is that the cost of these things will plummet in years to come.

Chargers will run at 30amps which is roughly 2.5 times the output of a normal socket, so using a socket will take 2.5 times longer.

I have had a P400e for nearly 4 years and 50k miles.
It is my 15th Range Rover, so when I say it is the best car I have ever had, it is in that context.
I want the P510e but because of the delay I am initially having a P530, so will be able to give a fair comparison between the two.
The PHEV comes with lots of compromises eg no LWB, no 23" wheels, no full size spare etc. But double the electric range, fast charge, much more power/torque, means this will be an amazing car.

The P440e is available in LWB if that makes any difference Badger - Rest as you say is true though.

Yeh, but not with 7 seats!
They have made it very complicated!

Definitely not straightforward - I want clear glass, but I can't remove it from the 5 seat LWB!!!

Very annoying.

I noticed that the P400e shows an advanced off road capability pack for £4k - The D350 and P510 include these options as standard. This makes the price between the P400 and the P510 even closer (assuming you want these options)

I can't see this Kev - Is this also applicable to the LWB variant, or just the standard car?

If so, what section is it under?

Can't see it offered as an option on the LWB Autobiography variant, but also can't see it listed under standard spec.... Maybe it's a few different standard Autobiography features clubbed together as a pack?

So after a bit more research it looks like i was right - The P400 and P400e don't come as standard with

Electionic Active Differential with Torque Vectoring by Braking, Electronic Air Suspension
with Dynamic Response and configurable programs

These are a £4000 option, which are standard on the P510, D350 and V8

Am I correct in thinking the P510 uses the P400 engine as its straight six ?
