Ordering a phev 510

Morning all
This will be my 1st JLR vehicle. Want a phev new Range Rover
I’ve done my Configuration online. In reality
Will I get my car this year ? The 2 dealers I’ve contacted can’t be certain

One of my brother in law's has ordered a Sport (not my cup of tea!) he has been waiting 9 months so far for it and the delivery date keeps getting moved forwards.

Went to what must be one of the last launch events last night and was told two totally different stories by different Salesmen in the same dealership Banging Head One said 2 years, the other 6-12 months.

Think the only way you'll find out is order one.

While its nice to have a new sparkly thing outside, I'd be tempted to wait until the first buyers have done some product testing. Some of the plastics felt very flimsy, I know these are pre-production cars but some things felt well made, others felt like they'd break in the first hard frost.

It’s a 3 litre straight 6 with a big arse battery and snazzy electric motor, a plug in hybrid with “60 miles” electric range. These will go like stink, will be lovely and serene on battery power, and I think the best model of the new line up for me. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

For a hybrid that is pretty good. Besides for most people it will cover easily more than 90% of their journeys.

With a 38kwh battery and 40 miles of real world range, that’s (unsurprisingly) horrendous efficiency. I know the savings will from from low emissions zones and tax, but if you don’t have access to the free charging or a very low EV tariff at home (which I’m not convinced will make your overall electricity bill lower), that will make electric running more expensive per mile than a D350. They did, they uprated the range to 113km recently from 100km.

Where did you get 40 miles from?

WLTP range is 113km (70 miles).

The electric still seems cheaper. To make it easy we assume we need 38kWh to charge the battery. If you buy 38 kWh for 18.9p each that's 718p. That's less than 18p of electricity per mile at 40miles (30 miles less than WLTP!). You also save money on less wear on brakes because of regen braking. How much does it cost in diesel in a 350D? At 30mpg and 142 per litre that's 22p per mile. That's assuming it does 30mpg in the city real world. More than 40 miles should be realistic if WLTP is 70 miles.

Update - I was using 30mpg figure for the L405. Using the "up to 36.5 mpg" figure for the diesel it would be 18p, almost as little as the PHEV assuming 40 miles of range. But again I don't know why we would use the 40 mile number when the official PHEV range is a lot longer. Real world in the city I would expect better than 40 miles on average. I can’t remember where I read it, but I’ve subsequently seen 50 miles quotes as well. We all know that WLTP economy and/or range isn’t achievable the majority of the time.

Your figures don’t take into account the extra cost of the hybrid in the first place, but I do agree that if you do a lot of urban mile / short journeys a 40+ mile electric range hybrid makes sense and not just for the BIK benefit, although it does get a bit more marginal when efficiency is as low as the RR. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Land Rover now says 54 miles "real world" range.

I thought running cost meant fuel, maintenance, insurance etc. after having purchased it. Depreciation would be fair to include in cost to run. I don't know how much each will be worth in 5 or 10 years.

Depending on the country the PHEV and non-PHEVs have different advantages based on fuel price and taxes. There are non-economic pros and cons to each. For people that live in an apartment, can't charge at home and and drive mostly very long trips the time the diesel would probably be more practical. I believe it is also a lighter car without the battery. If you don't like diesel exhaust, don't want to visit petrol stations often and prefer the option of using 510 hp and a very quiet and low vibration experience the PHEV has advantages.

Has anyone seen details about remote cabin pre-cooling and pre-heating? The PHEV should be able to use the battery to run air conditioning at a set time or by remote command without the engine running. L405 2016 - Supercharged V6 petrol 380hp
