Multiple warnings! SOLVED

While driving out of petrol station this morning, I got multiple warnings showing. Car is not driving as it should (heavy steering, slow gear changes, no speedometer reading, sluggish etc). No lights on the Terrain Response section. I’ve tried cycling the ignition several times to no avail. Any ideas?

I am not familiar with L405's, but first things I would check are battery voltage, (Try charging the battery? ) tightness / condition of cables etc, low voltage can produce a multitude of faults. I would start there and also look to see if there has been any water ingress to any control units, ( under seats etc, check info in wiki )hope this helps you start the diagnosis.

Just read the 'Car just died, any ideas' thread and a quote from garyRR says -

'The erranous gearbox fault error is a pretty good sign of low voltage I.e battery. The ECU on the ZF box immediately flags an error when voltage is too low'

Another sign for voltage problems can be unrelated faults, such as gearbox and camera system faults

Thanks Merchy, the battery seems ok, started fine this morning then 5 minutes later on leaving petrol station these messages appeared. I’ve left the car sitting unused for 3 - 4 days and no issues with starting. It does look like the messages you get when the battery is flat and you try to start the engine. I’m wondering if a hard reset would resolve it?

Sounds like a plan, make sure the battery is fully charged first and then do the reset, at least these first moves won't cost you anything and may get a result.

As I said, I know a little bit about L322's, and have only read about L405 problems. On the L322 you probably know that you can access the hidden menu on the screen and read the battery charging voltage when the car is running etc I would think that this is also possible on your car? Just a thought, this would give you extra info for diagnosis hope this helps Thumbs Up

PS - From what I have read on here, lots of times the battery will have enough voltage to start the car, but then low voltage causes the problems when the car is running.

My money is on your battery, you started it, stopped, filled up and then started it again, its the cranking that will take the most out of your battery.

I'd try getting it checked by a reputable auto electrician, or a decent autofactors.

If you can open the bonnet you could try jump starting it by connecting to the positive and negative posts under there. I found a 'Lurgs how to' video on Youtube that showed where these are, but it should also be in your manual and elsewhere. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Thank you. The car is starting no problem. It’s all the warning lights that are the problem!

Hmm. You could maybe connect a charger to the posts under the bonnet and see if having the battery really fully charged makes a difference. After that I'd be off to the dealer for diagnostic checks, but depending on where you are in Argyll it won't be that near/convenient. Can you get at the wiring loom to see if any connectors are loose/corroded/wet etc? Only Range Rovers since 1988

Thanks Mikey, a bad/loose connection makes sense. Can you point me in the direction of the earth points please? Thumbs Up

Apparently there is an earthing point near the fuse box in passenger footwell.

The below is the only other thing I have found relating to L405 earths, I do not know if this applies to your car.

Hopefully someone should be able to point you in the right direction soon
