Air Con problem

2012 Range Rover 4.4tdv8

Hey guys,

the air con in my wagon is acting up ,

I’ve recharged the gas it was a little low but no leaks etc

It’s still not blowing cold ,

Any suggestions on what to look at next ?

Just noticed it’s been gassed up to the 4 zone not dual so that’s definitely not helping… thanks for the links guys just reading up on it now !! I guess I need to just order a new compressor !

If the refrigerant has been overcharged, get that corrected first and see if it improves.

It’s been over charged today - 611g recovered 890g charged,

When we had the heatwave last Monday air con started blowing out hot air after an hour driving ? Also passenger side blowing out colder than driver side. Then intermittently blowing out cold air but mainly hot air .

I also noticed that it was taking a while to start blowing cold air prior to all this …

Assumed it needed recharge and got it booked in today.

Overcharge will stop it working. They need to redo it so it has the right amount, as per the label under the bonnet.

Then you will probably find you still have the valve issue with the compressor, but then when it does come on, it should blow nice and cold.

When it’s not come on and should, you might find getting the revs up makes it come on.

Not ideal I know….

I’ve not seen an answer yet as to whether replacing with the same make unit will mean that you will have the same issue again eventually, or whether the part has been upgraded… or whether a different make compressor won’t have the known issue like the factory one.

Might have missed it of course…..

It’s on its original one , so lasted 10yrs… I imagine in another 10 years the air con will be the least of my problems lol

Though I have been reading up on it and some people have had the problem come back again within a couple of years !!

Also reading up on just replacing the valve

Yeah, but you have to take the compressor off to change the valve, so most folk do the whole compressor in case that has an issue soon after the valve swap.

Mine was just over 4 years old when I bought it. Had the issue then….

Please search the forum - there must have been 3 or 4 threads all on exactly the same thing in the last month.

You need to remove the compressor in order to access the valve, in which case it's worthwhile replacing the compressor anyway, being 10 years old and how big of a job it is to get to. New compressors come with a new valve.

I was fearing my compressor might be at fault but had the system recharged today. For £60 I thought it was worth doing before investigating further. The system had 465 whatever's in it and now has 700 whatever's in and it is now, dare I say toooo coooold!!!!
So for anyone thinking about changing the compressor it might be worth the gamble of a recharge first.
