2004 Sat Nav CD Want to upgrade to DVD

the BWM 2004 GPS Navigation System is well past its sell by date, I would like to upgrade to DVD and use later maps, that I think are now 2018 update

the back of my CD system is like this - later Ford based DVD units have differnet connectors

how do I update a MK4 DVD to v32 firmware - anyone know how to do this please ???

there do seem to be lots of BMW DVD Navigations Systems (with the GPS antenna) and the same connector wiring as mine, and people selling these as compatible with Range Rover L322 2002-2005, will BMW coded DVD's work in my 2004 - or does the DVD need to be programmed differently ( or is JLR firmware v32 is needed ) ??

The BMW based cars do not have a touchscreen at the front. If yours doesn’t, your only option is to buy a BMW Mk 4 sat nav unit. It will look like your existing one but will say DVD in white on the front. You won’t be able to go newer than that as the data network it uses is different.

You can then get the latest BMW DVD map disk that it supports.

You will lose the Land Rover splash screen and the Off Road navigation option…. Though you can get a disk to change it back… prob from bay of e.

…but you should gain postcode search and more detailed maps.

If you have a touchscreen, I can’t help, not had one… and the above won’t apply…. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

This is the cheapest on the bay of e at the minute.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295152594663?ha...R4TvpIDuYA

There are some cheaper ones there, but they don’t have the DVD logo, so I suspect they are Mk3.

There is also a cheaper Mk4, but it looks like it’s lived in a swamp….

yes it is very poor form for lots of these ebay sellers to be selling DVD units that are not MK4, they are older MK3 CD units, I guess they are hoping to catch people out, or they just don't care and assume all the Range Rover units are DVD ones

anyway, I have got a BMW MK4 with the right connectors on the back, pretty local to me, so am going to collect it tonight £50

Result there then. Think v32 is the latest firmware BMW offered. There are videos on the net about how to change the splash screen and firmware etc.

It’s years since I did it.

I have the Land Rover splash screen file. I updated mine from the BMW splash screen of the Mk 4 using a file from one of the members here. Sorry, his name escapes me at the moment. It’ll come to me later. Sad Ron B. VK2OTC
