E-Diff

Hi Guys,

I've recently got into a 2012 Westy and I'm looking to change the diff oils, so looking online to buy the correct oil and there is mention of an optional E-diff using different oil.

I'm trying to find out whether I have the optioned E-diff. A quick look online and I came across a Piston Heads thread that said if you put it into snow mode and there is a padlock at the centre diff and the rear diff, then you have to optioned E-diff.

Mine has both padlocks, but is there a more solid way to find out if she has it or not? BMW have a VIN Decoder which tells you all optioned equipment on that VIN. Do we have a similar thing?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like you have one...

If you order the oil from Duckworths they will sell you the right one based on your VIN....

Try this decoder for your vin anyway...

I thought they all showed the image of 2 padlocks on the screen, whether the E-Diff was fitted on the rear or not. The only way to tell is if the padlock on the rear axle on the screen actually locks and unlocks or if you look underneath, the E-Diff will have wires going to it.

Mine doesn’t have the diff, and mine is always open on the screen.

Mine has the 2 padlocks on screen and has the open diff. As above wires going to the rear diff is the biggest giveaway 2016 4.4 diesel

Thanks all for the response. I shall call Duckworth tomorrow.

While I'm there I guess I may as well do the transfer case oil too. I got told you have to reset this afterwards is that correct?

Lastly, sightly random but should my car have TPMS?

On the navi screen the picture is wrong, always show 2 diff locks. But on the speedometer screen it show correct, so if you have both, then both appears. If only one, then rear not appears. Just swich on some special program, snow for example and check this screen.

Looks like I can concur with the above.

I don’t have it fitted… main screen shows a symbol…

The one near the speedometer doesn’t…

No need to reset the transfer box after an oil change.

Cheers everyone.

I have checked on the dash and it only has 1 padlock, I will double check underneath when I get a chance, though. I've had a quote from Duckworths and the oil Robin has quoted is for the locking diff and only 2L of oil? I'll query it once I have confirmed what mine has got.

Going to do my diffs and transfer box oils. Had them done year ago when the gearbox was serviced but having just paid for another gearbox service as it wasn’t done properly I don’t trust any of the work now…. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Oil is relatively cheap and one of the best bits of preventative maintenance JayGee. Pick a nice sunny day like today, with someone enlisted to bring you hot drinks and you'll be done in no time. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
