Remote climate control fob or climate control by App

I have a 2016 RR autobiography 4.4 V8 diesel (2017 model). With these cold mornings, I used the climate control on the app for 30 mins and it worked great. I also have a fob which came with the keys.

Just a few questions

. Is working on the fob the same system ?

2. If not which is the best system to use?

3. As I am warming up the car for 30mins will it help with oil dilution?

Thanks as always for your help.

( still love the car, and had over a year)

Assuming it’s the same as mine, the App remote starts the engine but the fob turns on the FBH (Fuel burning heater) so you should definitely use the fob to defrost and warm the car up rather than run the engine. It’s takes about 20-25 mins in my car, depending on how far below freezing it is.

If you want to cool the car in the summer, then the app. / remote start is the only option. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Thanks for that. Except for the light on the fob, how would I know if it works. With the app, and the engine running I know it is working.

Anyone know where can you get a fob from? price? etc would the hardware etc be already installed to work with the fob?

I used to use the app which was great, but since I have fitted the Ghost2 I cant remote start the car anymore to do a defrost etc

I wonder if I can get around that with a fob? Why didn't they incorporate that function into the vehicle key fob? 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

@Kot:

I think the FBH is only standard on the AB, others may put me right or confirm. Whistle “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

If I use the Fob, InControl App or Timed Climate, it is the same result that it just starts the FBH. Which one starts the car? SDV8 AB MY 2020

I’ve only used the app to cool the car, I haven’t tried it to heat as I’ve always used the fob, but in the app it says “Engine will start to power climate”, so I’m surprised it only starts up the FBH. I’ll try it later.

Timed climate uses the FBH, I’ve used that when staying in hotels and out of range of the remote. My main office is two stories up and quite a way from the carpark, but I know where the park the car so there’s clear line of sight and it’s in range of the remote! MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

The comment in the app I have is "You can only use climate control once per manual engine start, this is to keep your battery charged."

Nothing about the engine start. I wonder if there is something different between engine types and markets on which the car is sold in.

My Climate screen is different. I don't have a target temp either

REMOTE CLIMATE CONTROL
Prepare your Land Rover in advance by setting temperatures to keep you and all your passengers comfortable from the moment you step inside. It is powered by remotely starting the engine.*

*If the engine cannot be remotely started because of vehicle or market limitations, remote heating and venting is still possible if Timed Climate or Remote Park Heat is fitted. If neither is possible, the Remote Climate feature will not show in the InControl Remote smartphone app. SDV8 AB MY 2020

You are correct!

I'm afraid this is not correct. The FBH is standard on the SDV8, irrespective of trim level.

By the way, if anyone wants to retrofit remote climate to trigger the FBH, I wrote a guide for the forum a couple of years ago here:

But they don’t all have the change over valve to facilitate the rapid heat up for the park heater AFAIK even if you enable it. Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

When I started the fob I could hear the heater but the engine did not start, but with the control app the engine starts. Are we saying that the Fob and the control on the app use the same system. I am sure I saw something I saw that said they use different systems.
