Hi, I have been getting „restricted performance“ warning sometimes and It would disappear. Today I read the faults as I got the restricted performance warning again. Saw this error (water in fuel sensor) I cleared this one and the restricted performance warning also disappeared. Are they related or it is just coincidence? 🙂 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I have the same issue as the OP

I have tried changing the filter, cleaning the water separator and wiring etc

Made no difference

More investigating needed but may have to try the wiring to see if this fixes it.

There's a known fault with the water-in-fuel sensor. It is also easily damaged if plugged into the wrong bit on the bottom of the fuel filter.

Easily fixed with a new loom from Maltings 4x4 (takes 10 mins to fit), or you can pick up the assemblies for the 3.6 TDV8 cheap on ebay (the sensor is the same on both engines).

No, it's highly unlikely to cause the restricted performance issue.

There's a few common causes of the restricted performance message on the 4.4 TDV8, all of which are relatively inexpensive fixes:

A thorough inspection of the 4 hoses on the "donut"/air intake manifold, plus the 2x charged air hoses at the front of the engine bay is a must. As you face the engine bay, the charge hose on your right hand side heads into a metal union which joins the throttle body. Inside this union is an o-ring which collapses over time - there are some interim fixes possible, however will eventually require the whole part replacing. Here's the links:

https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic64236.html
https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic64236-45.html

Usual causes are:

1. Sooted up MAP sensor, which should be cleaned every few thousand miles. This is free so, try it first. Remove the engine cover and it's pretty obvious - has 1x T20 screw on it and a multiplug going to it
2. Have a good look at and around the 4x hoses on the 'donut' (inlet manifold) plus the two top charge hoses (the big rubber hoses at the front of the engine bay). Look for soot or oily deposits in their vicinity or white gunk
3. Failure of the seal inside the union between the throttle body and top left hose (a very common failure). This can be bodged with gas specification PTFE tape or the part needs replacing (£175 but takes 5 minutes to fit on the driveway with no more than a screwdriver). Look at the top left hose adjacent to the left airbox and follow it until you see a plastic fitting with a metal clip. It usually fails in this area so, you'd see sooty deposits around the fitting and on engine components nearby
4. Exhaust Gas temperature sensors down the sides of the EGR on the exhaust manifolds. P040D is a known error code of the sensor failing on the nearside exhaust manifold down the side of the engine.

Less common culprits are the temperature sensors beyond the exhaust manifolds. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Hi Gents and Ladies (if there are any)

I have been getting P2264 fault time to time and of course RP (Yellow triangle). I wanted to change the Diesel Filter today which was kind of easy job. I had a look at the sensor but it looks weird to me. I have never seen a brand new one so I cannot judge if it is supposed to be like that. The rubber plug was quite loose, to make sure it will not fall off, I tightened it with a bit of teflon tape.
The small piece of metal which is on the larger metal tread looks like broken and I guess it is supposed to stay in the rubber plug?

Can anyone tell me if there is something broken from the pictures?

I primed the car and started and draw out from my garage, no codes so far.

It's quite common for the contact inside the rubber plug to break over time and cause the water in fuel sensor fault code.

The cable on its own isn't available anymore, and the assembly for a 4.4 TDV8 is £300+. However, the loom from the 3.6 TDV8 fits and an entire assembly can be had on ebay for <£30, which you can remove the loom from and add to your car. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Thank you for the tip, I asked maltings if that loom will ever be available again but will also order a 3.6 tdv8 assembly. You are sure that the loom will fit my 4.4 Tdv8? 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Yes, it fits.

I had to do the same on my 4.4 TDV8. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

2 months ago I replaced the cable loom with a second hand one from a 3.6 tdv8. The water in fuel error and yellow restricted performance warnings were gone for about 3 weeks. I got the water water in fuel error again once I started to work on the egr temp sensor. The fault came back when I unplugged the broken temp sensor. I could not undo the sensor so I had a mechanic removed it. I was hoping that the water in fuel and restricted performance will not come back as all connections are done now but unfortunately it was not the case. Now i have no p040 fault but water in fuel fault comes up now and then which brings the restricted performance warning on the dash. That is really annoying.
The cable loom I bought second hand is in a good condition, Im not sure what else I can do.
Is it possible to replace the sensor with the one from 3,6 housing? I still have the housing from the 3,6 tdv8.
I could try to clear the ground connections on the chassis but can anyone share pictures where to find them. I found two very close to the fuel filter hausing but are there any other? 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I managed to get one from that advert. have you messaged them? LR072685S is their reference number. LR072685 is the number for the whole housing if you can't get the sensor on its own (pricey)

I contacted Maltings several times, they told me there was one last item left and I could buy it but they never got back to me unfortunately.

I already have tried a second hand cable loom from a 3.6 TDV8. Fault was gone for quite some time but came again right after I tried to change the egr temp sensor. maybe coincidence!?

The cable loom itself from 3.6 looks ok to me, did some continuity tests. Could it be that metal rod (is it the sensor?) that gets screwed to bottom of the filter needs changing?

I found this housing on ebay, the loom and the sensor looks very similar to 4.4 l322.
Does anyone know of I could use this one?

Is this for L405? Why the hell this is soo cheap compared to l322 housing? 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
