Well, it was inevitable that it would happen sooner rather then later, wasn’t it!

I was browsing eBay on Sunday and came across a 2012 5.0 Supercharged Range Rover Autobiography that had the word “Salvage” in the title. Naturally, it piqued my interest so I had a look.

There was no damage to the car whatsoever and the description said the timing chain had stretched. Turns out it’s showing a P0016 Crankshaft/Camshaft Correlation on Bank A so the Restricted Performance light is amber at the moment. Apparently it's still as smooth as silk with no misfires and no rattle on start up so I'm toying with the idea of very gently trying to drive it home at the moment.

It's a lovely spec car. It's got the Premium Audio Pack, Electrically Reclining and Cooled back seats, deployable side steps, detachable tow bar (which is still in its sealed bag apparently) with 13 pin electrics, rubber mats, Autobiography carpet mats, illuminated tread plates, adaptive cruise control, etc

It's just had new front discs and pads and 4 new Continental tyres on it too!

It's my favourite colour combo on these too... Silver, Black Leather with Piano Black trim and the Ivory Leather Headlining.

After having a good chat with the seller on the phone this morning, a deal was done and I’m collecting the car from London next week

The car was too cheap for me not to buy after doing the history checks, etc. I’m debating if I’m going to buy the tooling and do the chains myself or if I’m just going to put it in to someone to get them done.

Thinking about my above post David, may I respectfully suggest another solution to collecting the car from London next week. Have it delivered or collect it using a trailer, more expensive I know, BUT.....if it were to go all 'Pete Tong' during the drive home ( God forbid ) Then you would end up either writing another expensive epic thread for us all to follow or seeking the services of a good therapist and the boss might not be too happy with the time spent in your amazing workshop.

We all admire someone with a sense of adventure, I did mention this to Nursey but with her knowledge of my RR and other car addictions her utterances are unrepeatable. But....she can recommend some good therapists in the Glasgow area All the best with the new ccar.

I'll second the DO NOT DRIVE IT HOME... in fact DON'T EVEN START IT AGAIN.....

The chain tensioner fails and the tension is released on the chain, it can then jump teeth.... which you really don't want, AFAIK one tooth and your valves are OK, two and it's a new engine job....

Get it transported and don't start it, even to load......

Thats a cracking looking car and spec and looks like it has the four zone climate as well and HD Harmon and reclining rear seats is a well specd car and perfect colour too and looks factory too which is even better.

Am really looking forward to collecting this one. Got over a week to go though as collection isn't until Thursday 22nd June!

My plan is to keep it totally original and just tidy up anything that's not 100%.

I've got the original build sheet for the car and I don't think the window tints are original so I might remove them. It depends how well they've been done as with the little guy in his car seat they do keep the sun out quite well.

Good luck with it David. Might be able too help you out tho, I've got a suitable trailer that will take the range and get it back to your place in Glasgow and I live in East London so there's that for an option if you need it.

Nice car. This looks like its not got the 8 speed gearbox the tdv8 4.4's have - I didnt realise that the petrols didnt have that. 2010 L322 Autobiography Black Edition

Yea, unfortunately the 8 speed box didn't make it onto the 5.0 RR until the L405

Think it was 13MY across all the JLR range actually.
