Nice video. Kept hoping for some insight into range or efficiency, but I guess they will keep us waiting a little longer. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

He also said that the 300 miles is the real world range and the WLTP (nonsense) figure would be higher. 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

That would be roughly 2.5 miles/KWH, so not impossible, at least for part of the year. However, I assume that's 0-100% battery, so if you usually only charge to 80% to protect the battery and get nervous around 10-15% then its 200 miles on a good day. Still OK for the size of car to be fair, but you need to be realistic when looking at EVs. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

I think battery memories are old school batteries
Lithium batteries have no memories… a bit like old men!

Stand to be corrected. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

I think part of the problem is the lithium batteries should not be fully charged of discharged as that can damage the battery.

When the manufacturer states range they don’t care about the battery and quote a range based on a fully charged to fully discharged battery which in reality won’t ever happen!! "UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" ----is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" -----------is how far you take the fence with you.

I didn't know that Jasper. I always run my PHEV batteries down to zero, then charge to 100% - Is that a bad idea?

Many manufacturers actually limit usable capacity to avoid an issue I.e what you see as 0% or 100% usable capacity might actually be for example 10% or 90%. Not sure what JLR do as in my l322 it isn’t a consideration!

I did pretty much that on my VW e-Golf for 5+ years and 18k miles. When I sold it it was still easily achieving it’s WLTP range.

From my knowledge of our 20kWh solar batteries and what I've read and been told about my car battery.

You never let solar batteries go below 10%
Charging solar batteries to 100% doesn't affect the charge cycle nor the battery performance
Don't leave the solar battery at a low state of charge for extended periods
The charge rate is reduced if the battery is too hot or too cold.

I was told car batteries are oversized, meaning the total size is larger than the usable size. So, going below 10% isn't as important.

A car will preheat or cool the battery to accept a full charge.

I have been told contradictory accounts on whether to charge the car battery to 80% or 100%.

I try not to let my battery go below 10%. If it does, I look to charge it back up as soon as I can. I generally charge to 80% four times out of five, then on the fifth time to 100%. 2024 P550e Autobiography

@JackRegan: some good advice there Thumbs Up However 10% is a tad too low.

It’s generally known as “the 80/20 Rule” by the electric vehicle community (I don’t mean cars btw, but lithium batteries are lithium batteries)

There is a plethora of information and interesting reading on the excellent www.endless-sphere.com website, but be warned it can be an endless rabbit-hole! Laughing V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

@Gremlin500

I've just been reading some of the posts on that forum. Some great topics and conversations, which I've just lost over an hour too Very Happy

One thread caught my attention, which suggests most battery degradation is evident in the first few years, and it tapers off after that.

I've read this and been told this on quite a few occasions. What I'm not sure is, does this mean a bad battery will show itself in the first few years of use, or does it mean how the battery is treated/charged during its first few years will determine its longevity?

Yes, I know, I'm going back down the rabbit-hole...... 2024 P550e Autobiography
