Sigh. Rolling Eyes Laughing

So dampers ordered, I’ve read on here that it can be down without seats out …I presume just from the boot side to get access , many tried it that way ? V8 or else ...

I replaced mine last seek. No need to take the seats out but it’s tricky. There’s a stabiliser bar that needs to be removed to get to 2 of the top nuts as well as the boot liner and the associated trims.

If you need to know more, ping me a message. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

thank you.

I watched the video on raymiesgarage on youtube about it which showed the seats coming out, but on re-searching also found the Lucky 8 video below

where they've accessed the bolts without the seats and without the strut bars coming off too. So that might be a first attempt that way. V8 or else ...

Yeah. I watched Raymies video first but I can’t see how you can get the top shocker bolts off without taking off the strut bars off, well at least 2 of them, but I wish you the best of luck! Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

The chap in the lucky8 video ( at 3mins mark ) says put the socket fully on the nut first, then put the square socket extension bar into the socket at an angle afterwards as a lot of the modern socket bars can be run at slight angles if you dont fully insert them.

I'll report back when I try it ! V8 or else ...

For a fleeting moment I thought, oh ya dancer … if it’s brakes that’ll be a lot cheaper. Raced outside, check and guess what …

It’s the not the brakes Big Cry

This is good timing as mine needs doing as well.
Where did you get the dampers from and which ones did you buy, did you also replace all the nots and bolts.
Some photos as you go along would also be great. letters not necessarily in the right order

The dunlop ones from maltings. I dont have experience/knowledge of the aerosus ones which show up as cheaper, but the relative smaller difference for dunlop ones sat a bit better in my mind.

Bolts ... I've not read it for the dampers, the workshop manual normally says to replace bolts. If I'm brutally honest, I could see myself re-using them.

Yes, I'll take some photos and stick on here. V8 or else ...

I went for Aerosus, so it’ll be interesting to see how it lasts.

I used the new top bolts that came with the shocker.

Getting the top back through the mounting holes is a challenge, as it seems to need to be angled in from the bottom as you push it back up. Hard to explain but you’ll see what I mean when you get to that point. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

I'll sort a couple of pics later, but in short ... seats dont need to come out. If you take the boot stuff out around the floor area ( which is easy ), then you get general access to the areas just fine.

I couldn't undo both bolts on the strut bar, so I just undid the centre most bolt on each, and pulled it up out the way, pivoting on the end that is nearest the damper top. This then gave plenty of space to get sockets and things onto the top of the damper. V8 or else ...

So seats down, boot floor out, tyre out, jack and the tyre chocks out.
Tie down points out. Inner tailgate flap out. Left side panel off , just pulls from top. Lower right strip on floor pulls out if you tilt it upwards along its inner edge.
The area where the jack sits incomes out with a couple of 10mm nuts
It’s all pretty obvious as you go along.
This gets you at the top of the dampers.

You can see the bolt that’s hard to get tucked under where the strut fixes.

For the black bar, the ends in the centre of the vehicle are just fixed from a bolt on the boot side. The end near the damper is actually a bolt from the seat side. I didn’t realise this till later and tried to undo the boot side and chewed it up.

However, with the centre bolts out, you can just pull the centre upwards and this gives you enough space to get a socket into the nut that you previous couldn’t.

Now easy access.

The new dampers came with new nuts , but I re used the old ones as the new ones were much smaller. Old one left, new on right.

I also reused the bottom nut and bolt. Wasn’t too hard to get undone.

Was an ok job to do. Needs 2 people to handle the damper, 1 outside to support the damper as you take it out and put in, and one inside to fit a nut on the top so it can hang in place. V8 or else ...
