Bodsy has been this morning and changed the transmission fluids.

Jolly nice bloke and all that, but yet to drive the car... Hoping I'll notice the difference on the drive home this evening!

Other than a few reports of communication issues, he seems to be very widely respected and comes recommended by various people, including not on this forum people.

I had no problem getting hold of him and agreeing a date. In fact, I was a bit surprised he was able to come round within a fortnight of my original enquiry! (which suited perfectly as I was away anyway).

Just drove home and the old girl is definitely smoother.

£560 for all transmissions fluids = Good peace of mind

Took a little time to organise, but then he did come all the way up to Newcastle on Tyne to do ours to be fair, which I was very grateful for, he’s a busy guy. A proper gent, even sprayed a bit of Lanoguard on several rusty bolts for me while he was under there for a few cups of coffee. Thought the car was OK to drive beforehand, but it’s smooth as silk now, well worth doing bit of preventive maintenance. I tried to just let him get on with it as much as possible, I don’t like folks standing over me when I work. He did a great job, and not a drop split on my driveway, so my coffee must be THAT good!

So its 5 stars & a “Recommended” from Gremlin  V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

What is it he does exactly?

I see transmission fluids, silky smooth driving and some costs mentioned but wondered what he does to achieve this?

Gearbox, front differential, rear differential and transfer box oil change.

He uses a megaflush machine to do the gearbox.

It’s something which really needs doing every 50K-60K miles to avoid future VERY expensive gearbox repairs or even a 5-figure replacement, -which is denied by JLR as being necessary, because they would love to charge you for a new auto box, Sir.

It’s not something the average owner can do as it needs specialist equipment. If you drain and refill the transmission yourself, you leave a good porportion maybe 25% of old dirty oil behind. The Megaflush process removes 99% of the old oil and replaces with new, so is much more efficient.

Think of it as liquid insurance, same as 6-monthly oil changes for your engine.

I'm genuinely interested in Bodsy's process, as I recently had engine oil and filter replaced, both diff oils, transfer box fluid and gearbox megaflushed, but the car is driving worse than before the work. It seems to be hunting for gears and changing between them quite harshly. As you know, it's a very expensive process.

They have very kindly agreed for me to take it back to them so they can have a look into it, but I wondered if there was a bodsy secret ingredient? 2021 L405 Range Rover 'Fifty' D350

The “secret ingredient” is probably doing the job properly and with care. It takes a long time, waiting for the gearbox to come up to temperature at each stage before continuing, it’s not something you can rush or cut corners, it takes around 2 hours for just the transmission box alone.
It also takes a few days of driving for the reset gearbox to readapt itself to your driving style, and you need to drive sympathetically during the first few hundred miles, which is what Ian told me. V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

My understanding is that the gearbox learns under light acceleration where the revs are kept below 2000rpm, and also when you let it coast down through the gears.

On the 6spd ( and I’ll apply the assumption that the 8 spd is likely similar) the procedure was to go from standstill, accelerate keeping it under 2000rpm pro to at least 4th and hold the speed steady at about 50mph for a short period, then let your foot off and allow the car to coast back down to almost a stop at which point you apply the brakes and stop the car and hold it for a short period. Those conditions are when it learns the bite points and adapts. It may take a few goes to get full adaptation. V8 or else ...
