Can be a bit difficult to get hold of. Texting might work best.

Took a little time to organise, but then he did come all the way up to Newcastle on Tyne to do ours to be fair, which I was very grateful for, he’s a busy guy. A proper gent, even sprayed a bit of Lanoguard on several rusty bolts for me while he was under there for a few cups of coffee. Thought the car was OK to drive beforehand, but it’s smooth as silk now, well worth doing bit of preventive maintenance. I tried to just let him get on with it as much as possible, I don’t like folks standing over me when I work. He did a great job, and not a drop split on my driveway, so my coffee must be THAT good! |

It’s something which really needs doing every 50K-60K miles to avoid future VERY expensive gearbox repairs or even a 5-figure replacement, -which is denied by JLR as being necessary, because they would love to charge you for a new auto box, Sir.

The “secret ingredient” is probably doing the job properly and with care. It takes a long time, waiting for the gearbox to come up to temperature at each stage before continuing, it’s not something you can rush or cut corners, it takes around 2 hours for just the transmission box alone.

My understanding is that the gearbox learns under light acceleration where the revs are kept below 2000rpm, and also when you let it coast down through the gears.
