Easiest place to get to aerial cables?

Having spent more time reading up on how to use my iPod than driving the car, I've concluded that my easiest short-term option is an FM modulator in the aerial cable. Used one of these before, not the greatest but it does work.

So I need to get to the aerial cable somewhere I can tee in. I think I should be able to findit in the LH (nearside) boot compartment? Here's a picture of mine:

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?!?

Also, will the nav DVD drive play DVDs onto the front screen?

Not sure which is the tuner box, but would guess that it is the one with the FAKRA connectors for the ariel leads.

You can get adaptors which will allow you to add the input of a FM transmitter (converts FAKRA to standard old-fashioned connectors and back). I used to have a similar set-up in a 2004 MB E-Class estate. A £10 FM transmitter from Maplin then pushed the sound to the head unit. Aux in cable connected to the FM transmitter unit.

Benefit of this system was that it blocked out all other radio interference when turned on.

Perhaps you can use one of these?

FAKRA???

Do you mean the box at the bottom with a pair in and a pair out? Does it have twin aerials? I guess it wouldn't matter which you used if so?

The box at the bottom says MOST on it along with various part numbers which I'd need my specs to read!

The pinky white-ish bundled pair is a MOST optical loop which you SHOULD NOT touch!

Just been and looked in the back of mine. Am not even certain if the radio tuner is back here? Possibly part of the head unit?

The unit at the lower right of your photo has 4 ariel lines going into it and possibly is the TV tuner (is the TV tuner and radio combined on these cars??). Then to the lower left you have the harmon kardon amp and the TMS unit in front of it. Couldn't see anything that was obviously the radio tuner Sad

Using an FM transmitter that plugs into an iPod directly is always disappointing in my experience as they aren't sufficiently powerful enough to block out interference from other broadcasters. Still I haven't had to use one for several years so maybe they've improved.

Mine's a 2006 Facelift (Jag) model but it does seem that the 2006 fell into a gap between earlier specs and MY07 models. I was under the impression that the FM aerial cables were in the back, but.....

Is it easy to remove the HU?

Follow the black and white wire in the top right of your picture up into the trim and you should see a box there, 'i think' this is the aerial cable. Test it by having the radio on and pulling it out as the connector looks the right size and shape for it Smile

Good work! I think that's it - Googled the P/N on the amp and it comes back as radio amp (there's another nearby which is TV amp). Thanks for that.

Now to find some suitable connectors....
