5.0 SC Juddering 1500-1800rpm -torque converter

We have a 2010 MY FF 5.0 SC which has covered about 59,000 miles. The last couple of days it has started juddering. This seems to happen between 1500-1800 rpm. It clears under harder acceleration, or as the revs rise, or if the 'box kicks down. It feels a little like driving over a cattle grid (as described elsewhere).

I have read a number of threads on here, and elsewhere, about the problem. Most of these seem to point towards the torque converter being on its way out. Couple of questions if you would be so kind:

1) does this sound like a sensible diagnosis?
2) presumably replacement is the "best" solution? How much might I expect this to cost?
3) how much might a reconditioned TC cost? Any recommendations for a specialist in North London /South Herts/Bucks?

TIA

Blimey, And we all thought the TD6 had gearbox issues, the S/C seems to be even worse given the speight of gearbox problems that are suddenly popping up. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

I would check your transmission fluid level first before condemning anything. Probably worth doing a transmission fluid and filter change at that mileage anyway. TC problems only usually appear at around 50mph or above when the lock up clutch comes into play.

My 4.2 does this intermittently, and has done for 45k miles over 2.5 years. I've had the trans fluid done several times and for me the fix is usually an IIDTool gearbox adaption reset, followed by telling the wife to stop driving my FF (or at least driving it like an old dodder).

Clearing the adaptives Stan. The ECU on the 6HP28 learns a driving style and it's this bit that gets cleared.

Yup that's the one. Engine adaptions is good to clear too after cleaning or replacing sensors or air filters.

Thanks chaps. A friendly dealer has it in overnight for diagnostics. I am braced for their findings...

Apparently there was a vacuum hose that had come undone. Reconnected and £200 later its fixed by all accounts. If it really is fixed I don't begrudge the £200 given some of the other nightmare scenarios.

Also infuriating though. How does a vacuum hose come undone?! Sometimes, it's like bring back to the days of taking delivery of an SD1 Rolling Eyes 2006 4.2 SC
