12v Sockets / Cigarette Lighters not working

I have a problem with the 2 12v sockets in the centre console (1 in cubby box & 1 for rear seats)

These we're working fine driving home last night when my daughter misunderstood my instructions to her and she put her USB charger in the rear socket without any plug etc... Since this there has been no power to either socket. I checked the fuses which say it should be fuse 2 which is fine but I changed anyway just in case. Rear screen heater shows as being the same socket and works fine so either there is another fuse not listed in the handbook or another problem.

Any ideas/ suggestions appreciated.

That was my thought but couldn't find any mention of other fuses in my handbook. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

There's one in the rear load space fuse box . Fuse 17 or 18 (20amp) that's worth checking. Page 261 of my handbook. Paul GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

Check fuse No. 1 in the rh rear loadspace fusebox, it's a 20amp fuse for the cigar lighter/socket. That one is the most likely culprit.

Fuses 17 and 18 are for the trailer socket and air suspension.

I have checked every fuse in the glovebox and the boot and none blown. Have swapped those in pos 2 in the front & pos 1 in boot with others and still no power to either socket. Front socket works fine. Also PURE DAB which was linked into wiring for cubby box socket not working. I have tried difference plugs which work in the front socket just to rule out plug faults. Any other ideas? There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

No worries paulmoran2 Thumbs Up

I believe the handbooks changed twice, from the original 2002 edition to an edition in 2004 (for the 05-on MY models) and then another iteration for the post 2006 model.

It can be a minefield looking through the fuseboxes if you don't have the correct edition. When I got my 05MY FF, it had no manuals with it (apart from service book) and I had to make sure I got the correct edition manuals off the bay of e.

When the PURE DAB was wired in to the cubby box, did it have a separate in-line fuse? If so, that could be the one that's blown. Or possibly even shorted a cable?

To rule out the DAB I have disconnected it although the fuse between the original wiring and the control box is fine and double checked before disconnecting with a new fuse. Was fine until USB put directly into rear seat socket, DAB was working and accessories plugged in to cubby socket so must be linked to a fault or fuse somewhere but have checked every one I can find. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

I has a similar issue a while back when changing to LED bulbs. I managed to short one out and all the rear interior lights went out. Checked every single fuse to no avail. Left the car overnight and lo and behold, the next day all was well.

Still have no clue what happened! Censored Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Are there any other fuses apart from the ones in the glovebox and right rear that could affect the 12v sockets. Front and boot socket working fine. If not a fuse what else could knock out the 2 sockets and as far as I know nothing else? Quickly starting to fall out of love with the FFRR and my eldest daughter who appears to have broken it! There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

Been looking through the electrical circuits handbook, it could be the wiring. The rear cigar lighter and cubby accessory sockets are spliced off the same circuit that comes off fuse 1 in the rear compartment. It's possible that the wiring has burned out or got broken when the usb connector shorted out the circuit. I would also check the connectors on the sockets as well, but that means a bit of dismantling.

Fuse 1 in the rear compartment is a 20amp fuse, so would have expected that to go first, but if you have had the PURE DAB unit spliced into the circuit as well, it could have helped to weaken the circuit wiring.

Only way to find the fault will be with a circuit tester. Might be best to get an auto electrician to have a look at it.

Thanks, I have tested the socket from the cubby on the front wiring and works fine. The PURE DAB only had a 3 Amp fuse so not much power and that fuse had not blown either. Is there anything else on Fuse 1 in the boot that shouldn't work and where does the feed for the two sockets separate from the rest of the circuit. Any idea where the wires run (assume from rear fuse box to centre cubby section)

No power in the wires when tested at the connections.

Just a thought aren't all the fuses in the boot linked to a permanent live like for the rear socket whereas the sockets that aren't working are only powered when the ignition is on.

If it makes any difference the FFRR is a 2006 model with the early external facelift, Jag engine, touchscreen nav but old style dash (i.e. no terrain response). There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t
