I'm going to pop out and get something to replace the gaskets as they are now in bits and then will then be able to put the car back together. I'm hoping that Halfords or B&Q will have something suitable.

It's a shame that this was not the source of the leak, but at least I've ruled it out.

Once back together I will remove the boot seal.

I fitted new gaskets made from Evo Stick Flashband, which is a lead free self-adisive flashing strip



I was looking for something that would compress under pressure, and this stuff actually squashed out the edges when I tightened up the bumper mounting nuts to pull the bumper towards the car. I also used some black guttering joiner around the top and sides of the armature and around the tow bar electrics grommet and the rear PCD sensor grommet just in case.

just a quick tip, about the hose pipe thing, you will need to pour it for a while id probably say about 15-20 mins before you might see anything, i suspect most leaks take time for them to start but when the do and have a channel of water going it doesnt stop. i would say it might be a good idea to go out in the rain one day...


i know its not the best but it works, i went out in the rain and thats how i seen the leak, i sat there and looked for it with a very good torch looking deep inside where the bolts are etc etc

When I tested the door seal with a hose pipe the leak was evident almost instantaneously. By removing the hose and re-applying I could stop and start the leak at will. Top left corner.

Possible cause to the condensation is the air compressor situated under the rear spare tyre (Mine has been making some disturbing noise's over the past few months) coupled with about 1/4 litre of condensation pooled below it. I am looking at this option this weekend. Regarding the sat navs that were ruined in the rear right quarter panel from previous post's due to water ingress. Mine had the same problem where the power pin correded and broke off. My good electronics friend disassembled the male ten pin connector block and rebuilt the unit, it is now good as new. The L/R dealer wanter in excess of £1,500.00p to replace it!!!

Is rained for the first time since I replaced the tiow bar armature gaskets, and as suspected my spare wheel well is wet again.

It still looks to be coming in under the rear seam, so I'm going to have a closer look at the boot seal next.

I have been following this post with some interest as i too suffer from the same problem. I have applied the obligary vaseline around the armature gasket area and still have water ingress somewhere into the rear bootwell. I had the same problem on my old P38.

I dont seem to have it coming in on the left or right although did at one stage have in on the righthand pillar trim stopping where the speaker is, but that seems to have gone away, but i am sure will be back. I can not beleive that what cost me £63k new is worse than my wifes renualt which was only £16K. Most exspensive seive i have ever bought, and the wife is always reminding me!

I can belive that here we all are, with collectivly hundreds of thousands of ££££ worth of Prestige motors and landRover do not seem to give a T^&*.

Infact looking at the whole site what brand new is eqivalent in cost for 4 houses up the wesh valleys that dont have water ingress you would think that LR would get involved and solve more of the problems for past, current and new customers, come LR it is a joke now.

That said having owned this is my 4th FFRR i dont think i could drive anything else but i am sure we could all do with the hassle.

Your 100% Correct when it comes to Land Rover using us as the guinea Pigs to fault find there design flaws. I had one of the first 2005 model year touch screen Vogues that was blighted with electronic Gremlin's in the end the dealer was legally forced to take it back and swap out for a new on. Ironically what other vehicle is out there that even compares. Perhaps land rover will add another fitted extra as standard to the Rangee........A bilge pump! Diver Bryn

I went out to further investigate my leaking boot and my spare wheel well has collected over 5mm of water over the last couple of days

The good news is that I'm 99% certain thats I've identified the cause, and as others suggested it is indeed the boot seal.

With me sat in the boot, and the wife outside with the hosepipe, the water eventually started to make its way into car.

I removed the boot seal and discovered a small split on the top left courner.

I have to say very poor performance from LR, I have noticed most of the people who have boot seal issues are roughly of the same period. LR should really have this as part of the service plan, generally cheap item but major pain in the ass.

I have had cars that were 15 yo, 10 yo, rovers, fords, pugs, merc. never had such as issue.

Whilst painstakingly trying to resolve this leak. Your 100% correct guys water is definately coming in from near side rear panel in corner. Rain water is seeping in and when washing car pouring in. hopefully now fixed with foam Gasket and as a precaution new tail gate boot seal. :thumbsup: Diver Bryn
