What do you really think of the Evoque a few months on, now that they're a not-uncommon sight on the roads? I know a few of you have owned/driven them but I'll guess most of us haven't.

For me: I was really looking forward to it coming out, I thought the, erm, "wacky" styling was a breath of fresh air, and it was something different from the fold which I'd like to think about in the future, if it was big enough.

But now? Well, I'm sort of already bored of seeing them. I don't think the shape is all that, tbh, and dare I say, it looks kinda tired even after this very short time. It really hasn't grown on me at all, although I'll happily admit that this is only from a distance - I haven't been in one or driven one. But it's just not working for me, which is a shame. I *think* that if I was in the market for a similar-size similar-capability car, I'd be looking at the FL2, or (sorry!) possibly even something built, shall we say, a little east of these shores.

This is just a chinwag, over a pint, that's all, so what do you think?

I am with you, too heavily styled and that will date quickly, over priced for what is a compact SUV at the end of the day, The little audi looks good IMHO, the BMW and Mini a mess. buy a high spec Freelander which is essentially the same thing but more pratical,and a lot cheaper ( same as Disco/Sport as we all know). However a entry level Freelander was £20k recently the HSE was £35k. Sit in each back to back and if the base has a free leather upgrade find me the £15k difference cause I cant see it. Mine was a blue one!

I owned one from launch and loved it....for three months!

Sold it back to LR and bought a proper Range again!

Its true they were too much in your face for months before launch so have dated very very quickly!

Also true(although I would not admit it whilst I owned an Evoque)is the resemblance to the Kuga and the Kia Sportage. If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.

Sat in an Evoque today, felt like a Freelander but a little plusher on the inside. Not sure I understand it at all though. At least the RRS is a LOT faster than the Disco it's based on, the Evoque doesn't seem to have anything to separate it from a Freelander apart from looking different.

When i test drove one i thought they were okay nice to drive quite quirky and different , now when i see them on the road they just kinda blend in with all the other cars of that mould as said above …

Would i buy one if i got fed up with the FF….. maybe ...

I too was excited about them being launched (I'd even spec'd one up on the LR site and thought they looked amazing on paper and online).

Fast forward a few months and I'm so pleased I didn't buy one. I have very quickly got bored of them. I don't like the rear styling, I don't like the overall image (I just think I'd feel like a plonker in one) and I can't imagine why I'd buy one over an Audi Q5.

That said, I haven't driven one and the motoring press pretty much unanimously rave about them, so they must have some redeeming qualities.

I'm also pretty neutral on them.

My wife reckons they look like a car that's been sat on at the rear by an elephant.

That said, saw one earlier around Chobham in black with large fat black alloys and it looked very mean and I quite liked it.

But it has a 4 cylinder engine. Anything with those looks needs something more muscular to have hetero-appeal. Si. <This is my name.

Having said all of that (which is clearly just me messing about) I can't tell you how much I hate myself for liking this....it's a...ahem....erm.... ....Victoria Beckham Ltd Edition...in matt grey...and erm.....ahem....I really like it...(again on paper / screen).

Funnily enough I've been thinking that I might replace my Rangie with one in a few years. The Rangie is used for me going shooting and commuting to the station. My wife has a big Landcruiser V8 so we don't need another big car. So I probably need something small with lots of luxury for when I'm driving up to Northumberland or down to Devon.

It might make sense therefore to look an an Evoque. I'm thinking of a three door and taking out the back seats. Equip it with bespoke drawers for guns and shooting kit and a space for the dog. Stick some chunky offroad tyres on it for the season. Main downside is that it has a hatchback rather than a split tailgate.

The £40k cost is less than 3 years depreciation on a full fat - I could throw it away when I'm done with it...

Better option is surely to buy an Evoque for the wife (after all, that's what they're for), although I would like to see one Defender-style in solid green with white steel wheels and unpainted bumpers.
