4.2 SC Oil Service Cost

Hi Chaps,

My SC is due an oil service, and the local dealer is asking for £438 for doing it.

Is there more to an Oil Service than a simple oil and filter change?

My SC is now on 61K miles, and is 5.5 years old, it was last serviced 12 months ago which was an Inspection 2 service.

Thanks,

Justin

We're shifting to Murketts of Shelford for basic services as they seem far cheaper (and are just down the road). Not quoted for a RR yet but were much better for a Freelander. About half the costs as a rough guide, using genuine parts.

England 2005 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.2 SC V8 Buckingham Blue

I was quoted £480 and so did it myself.

Just bought the oil and filters.

Took about 1 hour. The biggest job was unbolting the plastic covers beneath the engine. Next time, now I know the ropes, 30 mins.

Filled in the service book myself and had the service indicator reset by dealer next time I passed by.

Rrblue is correct

Parts cost me £65 Inc vat from dan, they do an oil service kit, then it took 7.5 litres of oil.

Go to an independent if u dontwant to attempt it, the oil filter is at the front bottom and you have around

9 small bolts to take the plastic shield of.

I'd get it done independently, get the parts of dan and keep all the receipts.

The main dealer does do a full condition check f the car though, which an Indy might not unless asked. Might not be worth much to mst people, but to me it highlighted a few important knackered bits (rose joints / track rods).

Just had an oil service done on my S/C by Ongar Bridge in Essex for about £350.

They came & collected the car, gave it the once over & had a couple of things done under warranty, one of which was a new radiator which was weeping slightly.

Well worth having a garage you trust look after the car & I find them much more knolwedgeable than a main dealer.

BTW I have no connection with Ongar Bridge other than being a very satisfied customer of theirs for 10 years now, having had a disagreement with my local dealer, who have so far lost out on the sale & servicing of two FFRRs from me.

Stratstone Nottingham did my oil service a few weeks ago for £300. Cheapest local indy quoted me £250, so I opted for the main dealer.
