I need a new remote shell ?

Hi,
the rubber buttons on my spare key are disintegrating, there are new cases on Fleabay easy enough to swap over the innards and the transeiver but where will I get the blade cut ? Exclamation

Why get a new blade? Just swap the one you currently have into the new casing.

Any Timpsons shop or mobile caravan will cut the blade for you.
Usually located in supermarket carparks.
I got a new shell for the same reason and had the blade cut at a Timpsons van. Worked first time.

On the bay of flees you can also find "reconditioning" kits that replace the rubber. I think they come from Oz when I looked at keys and the likes last. That way you can retain your current key, no blade cutting or other issues Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

The OZ kit is good but is not EOM looking.
For the same price, online, you could get a new key shell and blade that will need to be cut - however just keep the soft rubber part for you current key and switch the torn out original soft rubber part for the new OEM looking.

Did it on my Td6, worked a treat. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Having subsequently taken my original key fob shell to pieces with a view to looking into replacing the rubber buttons only, as a second spare, I found the origonal rubber buttons are fitted into the fob in such a way it is almost impossible to remove them satisfactorily and I would defy anyone to then replace new rubbers in a truly satisfactory manner.
Much better result just getting a replacement case and getting the blade cut.

Oh, well, I did this a long time ago with satisfactory result - easy win really. LOL!

Just be calm and patient when doing it. it still takes less time than going to the shop to get a blade cut anyway. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Thumbs Up Very Happy
I've still got the origonal fob, how do you get the new rubber buttons in in a similar manner to original?

You need to alter the new rubber part so it fits nicely.

As you said, you can not put it exactly how it was, the shell and the rubber part being almost "molded" together.

However once you have both the original key and the aftermarket shell opened, you will see one can alter the rubber part with an X-acto blade to get it to fit flush.

It wont be as waterproof as the original one - however you could use sealant - but when was the last time you dropped your key in water... l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Hmm, I did think about doing what you describe but came to the conclusion that using a new fob and having the blade cut would achieve a more satisfactory result.
As long as we both got a result we wanted that's satisfactory. Thumbs Up
